Russia is due to take part in the public hearings at The Hague on the issue of Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence early last year, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

The hearings at the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, will start on December 1.

Lavrov made the announcement after a meeting with his Serbian counterpart, Vuk Jeremic, in Moscow.

“Russia, just as many other countries, has submitted documents to the international court to be considered in the lawsuit of Serbia against Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence,” he said.

Lavrov added that at The Hague, Moscow will “uphold the necessity to respect the international law, respect the UN Security Council decisions and the need to avoid any kind of unilateral actions contradicting the United Nations’ and the OSCE charters.”

UN mission in Kosovo

The Russian Foreign Minister also said the UN mission in Kosovo must not be replaced by other bodies.

"We note Belgrade's consistent stance that is principled and at the same time open to a search for reasonable arrangements that will make like easier for the residents of
Serbian enclaves,"
he said.

Meanwhile, he added, Pristina’s position is “unconstructive.”

“They obstruct the coordination of reasonable arrangements between Belgrade and international factors that work in Kosovo," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister emphasized the necessity “to be guided by UN Security Council Resolution 1244, respect in full measure the competence and powers of the UN Mission in Kosovo, and prevent other bodies from taking over these powers."

Moscow concerned over Kosovo-Albania unification plans

Lavrov denounced a statement by the Albanian prime minister calling for uniting all Albanians.

“We are very concerned about the Albanian prime minister’s statement,” Lavrov said. “We are convinced that there should be appropriate feedback to the statement – first, from the EU, and from NATO as well. We haven’t had such feedback yet. We hope that despite the fact that no public statements have come from the European capitals, negotiations with Albanian authorities are under way.”

In August, the Albanian premier, Sali Berisha, revealed his “national unity project,” which according to him was based on “European ideals.” It was the first time since Kosovo’s declaration of independence that a top official voiced the idea of uniting Kosovo and Albania.

"The national unity idea is based on European principles and ideals and needs a lot of efforts,” Berisha said in an interview with Kosovo’s TV channel. “Because of that, the Kosovo prime minister, Hashim Taci, and I will work toward removing all barriers that keep Albanians from feeling like a union no matter where they live."

He said there should be no customs controls between Kosovo and Albania, and both states should not look at each other as foreigners. This, he noted, had nothing to do with sovereignty.

Following the announcement, the Serbian foreign ministry sent a protest note to the Albanian embassy in Belgrade over the “provocative statement of the Albanian premier, which was violating Serbia’s sovereignty and integrity.”

Medvedev to visit Belgrade in October

The main purpose of today’s meeting between Lavrov and Jeremic was to discuss the preparations for President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Belgrade on October 20.

"We have many issues to discuss: on the Balkans and in Europe, as well as interaction within international organizations, primarily on security in the region," Lavrov said.

Jeremic stressed said the preparation for the Russian leader’s visit will be a serious task, since “it will be the Russian president's first visit to Serbia in the history of bilateral relations."

The date of Medvedev’s visit will coincide with the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from Nazi occupation by joint Yugoslav and Soviet forces.

In the tradition of Latin America, NATO has created a 'narco' state in Kosovo.Under the protection of NATO forces in Bondsteel, Albanian gangsters peddle drugs, prostitution & arms. The formula is simple. In exchange for fealty the albanians receive political authority. If the albanians receive any EU/US patronage for so-called 'independence' then the Republic of Serbia should declare independence from the artificial state of Bosnia.

EU and whole NATO as an instrument of imperialists wanted to destroy any sort of opposition in Europe as a big powerful state- they along with Americans jumped the ultra nazi religious socialism to promote one aggressive part of the population- the poorest, (and muslims- easy manipulation to destroy non-them) with ideals of expansion. Once called terrorists, after it was inapropriate for their plans, freedom fighters. The same sort of vermin freedom as in Afghanistan connected to drugs and many other crimes. Also I am very concerned how will yankees give up Bondsteel. But once they are forced, it could serve well to watch over the mafia, UCK and their physical eradication. The wild west in southern Europe has to cease and western presence and corrupt brainwash media closed. Let them have free media of their own, not those installed by their enemies to conduct psychological warfare. Because Albos- shiptars have shown no mercy for Serbs after NATO invasion, they have to be returned the favor. First be expelled, then those who stole property and dont want to give it back, shot. Because they are like rats, when you give them a few years, their numbers are very high- that means they can make another expansionist wave. Their education is usualy nonexistent. True patriots in EU are marginalized by mass media, they always make something up to discredit you, you can law suit them, but it has no effect, since the damage is done immediately and news about you being true and innocent wont have as far reach and comes often too late. Why so many Serbs die in Hague prisons, why genocidal albanians are serving few months or none at all? Why EU is trying to equalize national socialism with communism when eveyone knows they cant be compared? Why do they spread democracy? Why is this democracy controlled, why privatisation is so supported? Is it really about democracy they boast so much, or just control? Why EU and NATO spread is done by force? Because thats about It...

President Medvedev is coming in Belgrade on 20 October to pay tribute to those who liberated it in 1944. It was the south flank of the Red Army supported by some local partisans that did the job! I still remember the names of 20 year old Russian soldiers who were stationed in the street where my grandmother lived: Starik, Lonjka, Miska, Serioza,.... They all got killed afterwards, before Budapest, and it was only Starik himself, who was their commander, that managed somehow to survive. He then came back after some time, sat down on the step of a pharmacy house and cried for a long, long tome while talking how all that happened. The whole street have been crying with him. They all were so young, and I still remember many occurrences with Lonjka, Miska and others that my grandma used retelling to me (how they used to steal the coal from military convoys to give it to civilians from their street, etc.). It is going to be a great day for all Serbs to see Medvedev there. If Putin would come to Belgrade, I think half of Serbia would gather there (I mean, we all like Medvedev for he is outstanding, but Putin is still the one who has started the ongoing Russian rise - without being surrounded with persons like Medvedev, Putin would have failed to achieve the success like this). If I were Medvedev I would consider visiting the Alexander Nevski church, in the center of the Belgrade city, where there is an everlasting flame honoring the Tsar Nicola II Romanov The Martyred. According to what I have been told, the flame has been burning without ceasing from 1917.
