Once upon a time, people were tossed into the mouths of active volcanoes in order to appease the wrath of the gods. Today, we throw scientists at volcanoes in order to appease the wrath of the people.
An interesting article to say the least. I too have noticed how spoiled man has become in the last few years. Man has grown too attached to the materials goods of this life. He has forgotten what appreciation over what he has represents. Let us take a look at how man was a few decades ago (the interwar period is a good example of this behavior): Man was not dependent on much. He only needed his family, a place to sleep (a lot of times not even this) and his faith. This was all he needed in his life. No matter what obstacle he would encounter, he knew that he would overcome it and thus always maintained a positive attitude. Always optimistic, he was never saddened by the lack of luxury in his life. He knew that a reward mcuh greater than the combined riches of the world would await him at the end of his short life if he would not succumb to the temptation of this materialistic life. Though today, everywhere you look in society you see this craze, this eternal wish to own more, to possess more riches. We expect too much from life and we give too little (if anything) in return. Society as it is today (if it can even be called society) has surpassed the bottommost limit of degradation and depravity. It has lost all moral values. It no longer knows how to value what is true. You know, there is such a virtue in life that says "Do not depend on anyone or anything." What happens when you take modern commodities away from "modern" man? You take away his fast food, his cars, his Internet, his TV, his cell phone, his PDA, all his electronic equipment, all his fine foods and expensive clothes. Essentially you strip him of everything he has. What remains of this person? Nothing but a hollow putrid shell that is crackling and decaying as time passes. Modern life is not free, it is a slavery of commodities.
Bravo Colaps! If one were ask, what is wisdom? In that we do not value fame, fortune nor modern toys for amusement, but a reflection of a life, valued by experience and experience that is derived from interaction with others. And in that we come to realize when disaster strikes is when we value life itself. From the rich to the poor, all are on equal footing for a time and no person valued anymore than the next. From the isolation of their abodes, jointly victimized by their unified experience, the victims spring forth and offer assistance in realization they and we need each other. While some will see life dim and harsh, to others the newness of another day, a joy to be alive and the next day in rebuilding a life that once was to what will be; majestic life renewed and changed by humility.

What a retrograde attitude...
