Barack Obama is calling for ambitious arms reduction talks with Russia. According to the Times newspaper, the new US President wants to cut each country’s nuclear arsenal by 80 per cent.
The wind of change from Washington has made its way to Russia. As the new U.S. administration puts a hold on missile defences in Eastern Europe, Moscow says it is suspending the deployment of missiles in Kaliningrad.
Despite Russia’s decision to put on hold placing Iskander missiles near the EU border, the standoff between Russia and the U.S. over American missile defense systems in Eastern Europe is likely to continue.
