This is absolutley correct, and the world needs this balance for the good of everyone. Russia and China offer a multipolar military balance, and they do it in different ways. In Russia we have a small population, so we have to rely on Nuclear weapons totally, both in a strategic and tactical manner, to be able to thwart US,NATO and EU agression. China, on the other hand, can depend slightly less on Nuclear and more on their strength in numbers. The end result of such restoration of balance, will be increased peace and stability in the world, something sadly we have missed, as the US,NATO and the EU have run in a frenzied state to pursue, colonial ambitions around the world. This stability will benefit everyone, allowing all the peoples, including the peoples of the US and EUSSR, to once again live in a predominantly peaceful world.

Adam, widescale military consolidation is a military myth becuase the alliances quiclky splinter under the pressure of war. Just look at what is happening in Afghanistan and Iraq, with coalition operations, basically everyone else wants everyone else to do the grunt. The only coherent military force is the US, because it is internally cohesive, that is why it packs the punch. There is a place for consolidation, the first when the fight has already kicked off and is threatening the nations directly, as it was in WWII. Then they will throw in everything overiding individual national control. The second is where the alliance is used to run interference on a big nation, to try and weaken it. This is what NATO is attempting with Russia now, by inducing border conflicts. With this in mind, Russia also has to play the game the same. It must maintain an autonomous capability, relying on tactical and strategic nuclear weapons. Basically, it must always be able to handle the US and NATO on its own. This doesn't mean alliances like SCO ... are not useful, it is just they must be seen as only a backup and also a means of group weakening of an adversary in return. Modern warefare has changed so much, with technology coming to the forefront for gaining freedom of operations. This has made planners feel more comfortable with a military engagement, with a weaker technological foe. However, it has also made it more undesireable to lock horns with an adversary who packs reverse technological punch. All this requires very little manpower, no matter what the size of the foe. However, when it comes to holding territory, it just can't be done without manpower, and in modern warfare, because of technology deployed by small groundforces, the task is just as difficult as it ever was. So basically, if your intentions are defensive, technology that packs a big technology reverse punch, will be enough to keep you safe. However, if you want to be an territorial aggressor, you will fail, without the numbers. So for Russia to be safe, it just needs to be able to wipe out NATO staging operations in Eurpope and inflict catastrophic unacceptable damage on the US and European aggressors. None of this requires a huge army and that is why we are cutting ours back. We don't need to be aggressive, we have the largest country and are self sufficient in resources. So we just need a capable defence, this has to come from within, and is well achieveable on our own. This does not mean we can't cooperate in a multipolar manner with other countries, indeed we should and must. However, our history has always taught us, that when the fighting comes, we will need to be able to handle it ourselves. Otherwise, that is the time the US will invade!

some things that just make me angry is that we the USA always try to solve the problems for other people while they just sit there watching like nothing is happening, for example Afghanistan is much a greater thread to Russia or China than to the USA for example. If you all claim to be so powerful why don't you take your hand out of your pocket and help your neighbors instead of spending millions of money on nuclear war heads and stop taking every single thing you can to do to move out from being nice to other countries in international relations,,, why do we have to begged almost the Russians to help the world how do you all expect peace in this world if no one is able to help each other ??????????????????

jusanto93 - Leaving all morality aside of previous US actions. Shall I explain, why it is, the way it is. Militarily, if I have someone who is going to do the dying for me, and take the expense. Especially, if by each day it weakens them as an adversary, then in pure military terms I am going to leave it happen. So don't be surprised if we support keeping the US locked in any debilitating situation we can. This works both in terms of a potential adversary and an alliance member. This is why aliances don't work, other than in dire situations. Look what happened as you said in Afghanistan, who was REALLY with you even as members of an alliance. Now aside from moral aspects and the cold hearted explanation above. We, Russia and yourselves, have a huge problem, and that is we don't trust you, and I doubt we will ever trust you, and I would advise never to trust you. This does not mean I don't like a vast part of the US public, or the advertised domestic value system and business culture nor does it mean I don't have lots of American friends. It just means, I can't ever see a way to trust your government. It is a sad thing to say, but it is as it is. This does not mean of course, that we can't be friendly towards each other, as nations or as a people, indeed I hope we can grow in this direction, more and more. However, regardless of that we need to keep our guard up, with an independent autonomouss defence, capable of thwarting any US, NATO or EU aggression, by inflicting catastrophic unacceptable damage on yourselves. Only through this robust defence, can we hope to enjoy peace between our people. Because I never know, what your next administration brings! Now I wish all of our peoples a peaceful life, and hope the US can transform itself into a moral Nation, there is lots to be done! We are working on the corruption on our side. Have a nice day!

Bless you Count Cash, nice analysis. It is said " Who wages war with the sword shall die by the sword"... This is the terrible dillemma the USA is facing now. Russia or China does not have to go to war with the US because the US is at war with itself and destroying all the great achievements acquired from their founders. The strongest weapon that any nation can use, it has been proven, is the WORLD'S OPINION and support against a second one. The opinion of the world on Russia and China as Communist evils is rapidly changing or has rapidly changed, this is why they want to cooperate with them without any bias.

even the defense budgets of China and Russia put together it is no more then 20% of US spending in his War Budget, so i could not agree that they could meet the American challenge. Perhaps, is better to say that if challenge by America, they, together, could inflict such a huge damage that the americans have to think twice before any foul move..

In WWII, Russia and America we're allies. Please don't judge the American people by what our government or military had done! Most Americans want peace, not war, with Russia and China. Our real enemies are not each other (Russia, China, and America). The real enemies are the radical Islamic terrorists who want to plunge the world into a global nuclear war. Our governments need to work together to stop the radical Islamic terrorists; they are the real enemies which threaten world peace. Once our governments recognize the "real" enemy, and work together to eliminate their threat, then, our governments should be able to peacefully coexist. Wouldn't it be a beautiful thing if all of the countries of the world no longer needed to spend billions on defense budgets, and instead use that money for the betterment of people in all countries?

'Agree with some of the comments above, Russia and China are already balancing the world and we are going towards to a multipolar world and I think we are already there. About the budget that the Pentagon runs is around 600 billion dollars a year this does not include the wars they are running you have to add a least 200 billions more so that gives you close to a trillion dollars is amazing the amount of money this country is throwing away, look the 600 billions is just for maintenance for all the bases around the world that at least are around 750 outside the US and you have to include the bases inside the US, and the new technologies that are in progress in the US forces goes to the debt of the US economy so in some time in time they will have to stop doing this or reduce and start choosing priorities for the US forces, the US imports 1 Billion dollars in foreign technologies many of them from Europe. Instead Russia is not in this category of spending they already past this in the past, when the USSR was every where and look what happened to them, they broke so the Russians are doing the contrary of the US policies they are reducing their arm forces from 1.2 million to 1 million more/less but they are investing in to make a more professional army and creating a new kind of weapons for different kind of conflicts that includes nuclear weapons with multiple war heads so if the US doesn't change there policies they will go the same road the USSR went. And for China they have all the money they want with out borrowing from some one else, just take a look the latest show in Beijing when they celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Communist party 2 weeks ago and the weapons they show all brand new and they were very impressive one in special the new Ballistic missile anti-aircraft carrier so this shows that the US is no longer the only super power around any more.

Russia can not trust China any more than she can trust the USA, NATO or the EU. The only allies Russia can trust and rely on are her military forces. Of course, Russia and China can be in an alliance that serves both their interests - and, as long as it serves Russia's interest. But, as the Dolly Parton lyrics in a country song says: "...I will sleep with one eye open from now on..."

Friendly Texan: "The real enemies are the radical Islamic terrorists who want to plunge the world into a global nuclear war." NO! NO! NO! The real enemies of the Russian Federation are those who want to weaken and eventually dismember Russia. These people are not the Taliban, nor the Al Qaeda. Where do you suppose these folks reside? Do you know the answer to this question?

Come on my Russian friends, was there not a time early in the Cold War where You and China were allies and then look what happened, China and the old Soviet Union had border clashes, China did everything it could to undermine your position in the world, even inviting Nixon to China just to tip the balance of power! I can tell you, many Canadians do not feel Russia is a threat, but China, there is a real threat to world peace as China plants its flags around the world, gobbling up resources, copying products from around the world. You Russians will have to decide, moving closer to the west or to the East

Our confidence in Russia is underminded when the Russians make very stupid policy moves which undermine American security. A Downey, I have always found it interesting that Slavic nations especially have been asked to choose between being with the West, or with the East. I say to you, sir, that we belong to neither side, and should never be expected to take one. We are the West of the East, and the East of the West. Do not force an identity onto us, for we will throw it right back at you. Russia should have allies, and turn only to itself, and its peoples, as should all the Slavs. It should identify with itself, and no others, except in the realms of peaceful coexistence.

As a neutral person who has worked in all 3 countries recently from 2008 - 2010, my solemn hope is the USA, China & Russia will never go to war against one another. I saw not just the sheer numbers but the discipline & physique of the PLA in Tiananmen (all those Olympic drummers in 2008 were PLA), got up close & personal with Apache gunships, Predator drones and A-10 & F-18 jets in Texas in 2009, and finally saw Topols, T-80s and all manner of tactical nukes roll down Tserkaya in May 2010. Today, any 1 of these 3 nations are more powerful than Nazi Germany, imperial Japan and fascist Italy combined. The biggest most powerful active military block today is NATO (which includes the USA). Hence it is only natural for Russia & China to cooperate to counterbalance that. However, one should also not forget that all 3 were allies in WWII.
