I seem to remember that after Pakistan demonstrated their proficiency with nuclear weapons, the Americans sent a message along the lines of: 1. They knew where Pakistan nuclear weapons were kept; 2. They needed to secure those weapons or they would destroy them; 3. They would "put Pakistan back to the Stone Age" if the Pakistani government failed to cooperate. Right or wrong - it would be a foolhardy Pakistani government that chose to ignore such blunt threats. On the upside, they have had some cash from the Americans for being so helpful.
