Have Clinton’s election barbs put an end to the Reset?
December 08, 2011 08:43
American interference in Russia’s internal affairs risks poisoning relations again. Writer and political scientist Igor Panarin is confident that public criticism of the Duma poll by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signal the end of the Reset.
There is a double hypocrisy in Ms Clinton's comments. First, in the US it is illegal for an election campaign to accept any money from foreign sources. And, secondly, her own husband got in trouble for accepting campaign funding from Indonesian businessmen. Talk about the pot calling the kettle!
How Russia conducts its elections is none of our business. When Obama first announced that Clinton would become Secretary of State, I just about fainted. My candidate would have been Bill Richardson, probably the only person in the United States Government who was on a first name basis with nearly the entire world's diplomatic community. Clinton has all the diplomatic skills of Mike Tyson, her opening gambit a clenched fist to the bridge of the nose!
concernedcitizen, You are mistaken, if you think that the world is flat and you have the same importance as, say, a president of any country. You and me -- as complete nothingness in this world -- we could comment on anything and as long as we wish. But, among the country leaders there is certain ethic of behavior. And they are not free to say or do everything they want. Therefore , when one l eader (or top politicians) of a country comments about events in other countries, which may stir some motion in that country, it is called -- interferences in the other country internal affairs. Sometimes, it may lead to the war between the countries, if leaders go too far and don't know the limits. What we can say here about Russian elections -- H. Clinton or McCain cannot. Unless, of course, America ns start completely loosing and fogetting that they are part of the world and not something isolated from it.
There was never a reset. There was never a good intention from the Anglo-American world. There was never an end to the Cold War. Never!
How long will it take the Russians to understand, accept and put this in the public space?
The good talk is just to pacify Russia as much as possible, while the preparations for its destruction are under way.. .
I suggest facing reality as evidenced by the facts!
I do agree those who think this article is nonsense and at best naïve or perhaps deliberately misleading. The fact of the matter is there was never a genuine reset between Russia and the U.S. As a result, one cannot risk what is not already there. Of course, this looks bad for Medvedev who invested great deal in his dance moves on “Americana boy’ and eating burgers with Obama but other then that, Russia will do business with the U.S as before and the same will be true for the U.S. Russia has similar pragmatic relationship with Germany—only the Germans are more disciplined and do not often make ridiculous comment as those made by Hillary Clinton few days ago but to see German hatred toward Russia just read their newspapers and you will see that WWII did not end for them.

@j (Unregistered)...As usual Americans are too self-righteous to get it. This article is about American hypocrisy not so much about who's form of democracy is superior. What obliges Hillary Clinton and the State Department to judge the Russian system? Why do US government institutions spend $9 mil on NGOs to subvert the Russian political system? What inspires Americans to get on a Russian media site and brag that US democracy is flawed because the US citizen is flawed implying Russians have authority issues? The Russians don't meddle in US politics at this astounding level.
It's a country's right to comment on a situation going on in another country: london riots, occupy wall street for example, and the spending $9 million on NGO's is very small, no doubt RT's budget is much higher. Also i'm not American, but you question why americans 'brag' on a russian media site, well sorry but this site IS in english, so no doubt you're going to get americans (even those who disagree with you on things )

Ma ybe the US is a mafia state, but even wikileaks(unbiased) reports that russia is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet.
I cant stand this woman.Shes a snake with all her American Empire wich will fall hopefully sonner than latter.Obviosly Russia is in a media battle with US and ofcourse they protect theyre intrests as US does.Russia learned from mistakes that made in USSR times.Democracy to a certain extent its the best for a society.Just let people do theyre thing ,theyre money, make them feel free and you rule forever.I hope that Us leaves us alone and China and Russia will start investing in my country in the future to create jobs cause what Us does is bringing companies take resources and go home.Better with this New Russia than with The Old US.RT please make in the future a Romanian version of RT and show my country what America really does everywhere in world even if its a bit let say biased the information its still MUCH cleaner than BBC or CNN :) THX

Hillary Clinton, Shut Up and stop the violence on the protesters in your country. You are killing people in the Arab and Africa world. Stop your interference and respect the sovereignty of Russia. 49% for United Russia is equivalent to 30 million Russians. NGOs are funded by George Soros and Boris Berezovsky (aka criminal and mafia who stole the Russian people and is exiled in London). Soros and Berezovsky have a deep hatred of Russia and Russians. Berezovsky became a billionaire during the wild and illegal privatization by a few oligarchs in Russia during the Yeltsin and Gorbachev periods. You and Obama are just puppets. the real masters in your country are the banksters from the City of London and Wall Street. millions of Americans (49 to be exact) are living through food stamps.
Article is interesting. Aside from being factually mistaken in some instances (That votes from abroad are not counted), and correct in others (no direct vote for president since it would allow California and Texas to elect every president) it never addresses the true issue, which is "were the elections free and fair." Instead the article points to the flaws in the US democracy. The fact is that the American system is indeed terribly flawed in a number of ways, but thats because American's are imperfect and it is their democracy - a reflection of the people, not one person. In any event, American imperfections do not mean Russia is above criticism. So, were the elections fair? Were ballot boxes stuffed?? Seems that many Russians believe they were not fair and I am sure Hillary Clinton's agreement with their sentiment holds as much value as...well, this story.
