The oligarch for oligarchs, simply views this as a takeover bid - plain and simple, just like a business deal. It’s all or nothing for him, because he is the boss, the new potential owner. He has absolutely no interest above GAZ for him and PROM for his jailbird friend! All he can do is rant on about communism that is the limit of his understanding of Russia and our people! If we let this oligarch in then we simply return to the 1990s. He is a onepercenter, and we should all pull together to deliver that result for him!

Why would a billionaire want to engage in national politics?  This is the question everyone should be asking!  The president would certainly have full authority over international trade policy (with consent from the Duma?)  Additionally, the president has the countries natural resource base at his disposal.  If his motivations are noble and the global economy continues on its current track then Russia could substantially benefit from the vicissitudes of a post modernist corporate tsar.  Although, if elitism is endemic to Prokhorov's character - as is the case with most billionaires - then Russia will be digressing into the annals of it's tumultuous history.

In the US it would just be an ego issue, but it's hard to know why a billionaire needs to be President to "serve the people", as he could also do so as a philanthropist or a venture capitalist.

But one thing I respect about him, unlike the western elections, he states in the presidential run he will not use nasty and smear-campaign tactics against Putin or the rest contestants. Typical east European Christian Orthodox mentality - in a competition there are limits and lines shouldn’t be crossed.

CEOs seek what they think is good  for themselves not a common good for the people or and the nation , or the World; or even  for humanity.
