Re-election in Iran possible if supreme leader sees fit – expert

One person is known to have died in Tehran after shots were fired on an angry crowd protesting at the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ram, i agree with you exept for on the part that they have achieved more then if they had the wests support. this is becouse after the revolution, west germany pulled out from an offer to build Iran a functioning nuclear power plant. with the financial and technical support of the west, i belive they would be more industrialized. however they have done a great job on their own

This is more than the US did in 2000. Perhaps Iran can teach the West something about democracy even if there is no re-election. However, we must look at this in an unbiased way. The ostentatious much publicized protests are but a few people in Iran. This is not the whole country protesting and lets face it "democracy works" when a country is left alone to sort out its problems. Imagine, people in America stating that the elections were rigged without leaving their breakfast table. Is this the way the world is going to be in the future? Every one grinding his own axe for political brownie points. The west will be better off staying away and let the sovereign country of Iran and any other countries that have problems sort them out themselves. They are all capable people. Iran has done well in the past 25 years, though isolated from the west, they have achieved more than if they were linked and liked by the west. They would have been suppressed and controlled by some puppet shah. Let the people live their lives and contribute to the world in much the same way as they have been doing in the past.
