In an unprecedented event, battalions from Britain, France and the United States will participate in the military parade on May 9 this year in Moscow to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany.
This is a good thing, Russia is a friend, not an enemy....the enemy are terrorists ! I was a soldier, now retired, and my wife is Russian....this is the future, a new world and a new Europe. This is the 21st century we have new friends and new enemies. If I was younger I would like to be in this parade....but I will watch it with pride.
Yes, it is good that the Obama Administration is leaving apart the main geopolitical idea from the GWB Administration, built by the "Neocons", of confrontation against Russia. Neocons thought that tension with Russia would grant American military leadership in Western and Central Europe. Portraiting Russia as an evil threatening dictatorship was a guarantee of the presence of American troops in Europe to "protect" its allies....but if Russia is a good friend, with an increasing economic, social and military connection with the European Union as Schröder, Putin and Chirac tried to promote, then there is less demand for U.S. troops. Probably the new American Administration of Obama just thinks that cooperation would save $billions to the American taxpayer and, after Russia joins the W.T.O., it will be good for American exports.
It is important to note that NATO countries fought Germany because of their own interests not to help Russia. They would soon fight Russia during the cold war or even invaded Russia if they could. Of course we don't want enemies here but America will do anything needed to satisfy the materialistic needs of its people. It invaded Iraq for oil not with the excuse of WMD. Russia is much more resourceful than Iraq. It promotes democracy but at the same time supports dictators in the middle east. If it was not for Russia's military might, I am 100% sure we would have met the same fate as Yugoslavia. Even Russian military leaders have stressed this in the past. Russia and NATO should not be enemies. But if Russia wants to be independent economically, politically and prove to the world that it can have a foreign policy of its own, it will have a superpower status. It has to be cautious because NATO or primarily the U.S would naturally as a superpower be against the existence of another superpower. Unlike Russia, America still has the desire to dominate the world politically, militarily and economically. Russia is part of this world.
Enrique, obama is NO friend to Russia! He is no friend to MOST Americans either. The man is all for himself!
This will be one of the most impressive Victory parades. The addition of troops from Allied nations will ensure wider media coverage than usual. I believe Kremlin should invite the Georgian veterans to attend the parade. This parade is a great opportunity to demonstrate to Georgia that the Russian Federation respects the Georgian people and honors the sacrifices their troops made in the Great Patriotic War. Such a magnanimous gesture would help counter Saakashvili's anti-Russian propaganda.
I think its a good idea. America and the UK did hardly any work in WWII, so they will have hardly any troops marching there - its proportional.

Think again Nikita.....we in the UK were hard-pressed, lost thousands of ships, were fighting all over the world, remember the 1,000 bomber raids on Germany..Dresden...etc. we were also short of food.... We are a small Island...we did a lot ... Best wishes my friend...we will both watch this parade.
Nikita, Hardly any work? My Grandfather spent 9 months in a forced labor camp in Germany after he was captured in Italy. He was haunted by what happened until the day he died. Not to mention the US was fighting the Germans AND the Japanese. Russia gave tremendously in the fight against Germany, but had Germany not been fighting a two front war (because of the US); you might be speaking German

Strange then that Hitler directed his V1s and V2s towards England and not Russia or that German munitions factories were moved eastwards rather than westwards to escape allied bombing. The ship that rescued my father from the beaches of Dunkirk (HMS Niger) was later sunk by a mine on the return from a mission delivering supplies to Murmansk. I guess the sacrifice of those sailors was pointless as it holds so little value in the minds of Russians today.
Wow, US, British, French and Polish soldiers together with Russians on Red Square. World is changing. NIKITA, You should respect all Allies soldiers. Poland- "First to fight" 1939-1945 ( European Western and Eastern Front, Africa,) lost 240.000 soldiers and 16,7 % of population. France - 1939/40-1945 (Western front, Africa, Asia) lost 218.000 soldiers and 1,35 % of population. UK- 1939/40-1945 ( Western front, Africa, Asia, Oceania) lost 383.000 soldiers and 1% of population. USA-1941-1945 ( Western front, Africa, Asia, Oceania) lost 417.000 soldiers and 0,3 % of population. USSR- officialy 1941-1945 ( Eastern front, Asia) lost 10.000.000 soldiers and 14,2 % of population.
Yes, Georgian veterans have to be invited. Canadian as well.
Not sure if this generous gesture is going to be appreciated by the former allies. A propos, I have never seen any mention of the Soviet Union’s (or Russia’s) role in the WWII during the V-day celebrations in London or elsewhere. Baffling that, some people in Europe still believe that the Russians just 'enslaved' Eastern Europe and the fascists were destroyed by the allied troops. Not surprising that those frivolities with the truth lead to destruction of war memorials and to other outrageous events like e.g. Nazi collaborators are declared as “heroes”. Yet again, Russia steps forward and forgets very recent betrayal during the Georgian war.... Strongly disagree with “NATO soldiers” marching on Red Square; they should be dressed in WWII military uniform of allies – that would be acceptable!!!
Thank goodness !! It is about time to build a one-world-minded reality! I believe that this ceremony is a way to bring the US and the UK and France and Russia together. I know that 8 million Jewish people died during the Holocaust, and now I hope that the 20 million Russians who died during World War II will be paid equal respect by other nations.
I think it is time to forget any contradictions. Our friendship - key to future. Sorry my bad English)
It's a good thing that the allies of old yet march togeher in victory! It's right historicaly, politicaly and moraly! I, as a half Russian, half-German, argue that, after some time, Germany's troops as well, should be invited to march in the Victory parade. Why? First of all politicaly, i.e. to show that Russia and Germany are good friends now (Germany, after all, is Russia's strategic partner in Europe and its main hope in crushing America's trans-Atlantic bridge into Eurasia). Secondly to show that there were Germans who shared the effort to free Europe of Nazim (e.g. Stauffenberg) and that Germany is nowadays one of the main opponents to neonazism (whereas in Russia there are nowadays more skinheads than in Germany! Shame on Russia for that!) Yet, first of ALL, all countries of the former Soviet Union should take part in the parade! Even Georgia (well, after Sakashvili is gone of course). They are by far more important than any other country! What will Russia do without the CIS!? How will it ever become great again without its brotherly neighbours?!!!
"I believe, Putin and Medvedev should put aside their feud with Saakashvili, and invite the Georgian veterans of the WW II Red Army to attend the parade and ceremonies - these old veterans deserve this respect. Gaumarjus Sakartvello!!!" - Great words Kihnu!)
The aggression pact NATO are surrounding Russia with hostile puppet regime´s and tonnes of military hard ware and "advicers", yet they are invited to march on the Red square? They WANT to march on the Red square, desperatly, as did Napoleon and Hitler on THEIR drang nach osten, but only as victors of their own aggression (in their dreams). They also want to lock up Russians in anglo-american "tribunals"... Seem like the russian military dignitaries are to busy admiring their new "friends" not seing whats behind their backs....

Saddam Hussein declared war on Israel many years ago. To avoid WW3, the US had to fight a proxy war against Saddam with lies, that Saddam had weapons, was going to attack the US. Yes. the US gov't actually told Americans that Saddam was going to attack the USA. You know, the same lie used in WW2, that Hitler wanted to invade USA. The US is in Iraq because Israel told the US, "You attack him or we will and cause Wall Street to collapse, the price of oil to go through the roof and destoying the US economy forever." The leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan would be overthrown if Israel tried to remove Saddam from power militarily and did not intervene on the side of Iraq. So this war in Iraq is "The Israeli Proxy War'

RT: "However, Georgia has not been invited to take part in the May 9 parade on Red Square. “We sent invitations to CIS member countries. Georgia is not a CIS member,” said Aleksandr Kolmakov". This decision is quite understandable since the Saakashvili has no respect for WW II veterans, and, anyway, is too busy tearing down the monuments dedicated to the valor of the Georgians who served in the Red Army to pay attention to the Den Pobeda (Victory Day) ceremonies in Moscow. Georgia lost over 300,000 troops fighting the Nazis and they deserve a place of honor in the May 9 parade. I believe, Putin and Medvedev should put aside their feud with Saakashvili, and invite the Georgian veterans of the WW II Red Army to attend the parade and ceremonies - these old veterans deserve this respect. Gaumarjus Sakartvello!!!
