From Western Europe(Britain excepted) the political message is clear. No final European war will start because of European and Russian estrangement. Geography has made Russia and Europe neighbors. And finally we are to live like neighbors. You might moan about your neighbor. You might visit them. You might become good friends. But you don't take an axe to them. The Cold War ended decades ago. European governments are ready to move on. Is the Government of the USA able to?

Russia has never been a threat to Europe, notwithstanding the constant drumbeats of the Eastern menace from Washington. The so-called threat of the Soviet Union was used by American imperialism to keep Europe in the fold in its quest for global supremacy. Let us not forget, that not a single Russian soldier has set foot on the Western European soil in the last two centuries. But Russia has been subjected to attacks by four Western countries: France's Napoleon in 1812; Great Britain and the United States following WWI; Germany in WWII; the West during the Cold War unleashed against the Soviet Union under the leadership of the United States. Two decades have passed since the the end of the Cold War. International relations are undergoing an unprecedented transformation from confrontation to cooperation. However, the United States insists on conducting its affairs under the old paradigm of aggression and expansion, while the rest of the world is working on a new paradigm of harmonious and peaceful relations between states. The new paradigm underlines the rationality of a political reality that should have always been recognized long ago but has somehow been ignored or overlooked because of narrow extraneous interests. European interests and the Russian interests are inseparable. France, Germany and Russia are natural allies. Russia has always recognized the necessity and the benefits of this grand strategy. France has just joined Russia in this great journey of friendship and mutual benefit. President Sarkozy of France should be commended for declaring the paradox of a purportedly demonic Russia that cannot be trusted but somehow is expected to support whatever policy is cooked in Washington. It is Russia that needs to trust the West, not the other way around. So far the United States has failed the test of trust on numerous occasions and refuses to accept the new paradigm of global governance. At its own peril.
