Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has described the country’s opposition as “enemies of the people” and criticized Russia for economic hindrances as he started his presidential campaign.
Due to my laptop's mischievous playing of "hide and seek" (the disappearance of previous comments,) may I suggest the following: - if some articles aren't open to discussion, they shouldn't have a "discussion" option - any comments which appear to be critical of the author or his employers shouldn't be immediately published - any comments removed after initial publication should be replaced by a "removed by moderator" or similar note to avoid confusion That is, of course, if RT still intends to adhere to its much deserved reputation of transparency and freedom of expression of unbiased opinions.

What an unfortunate choice of headline! The "scarecrow" reference is so passe, even Lukashenko with his collective farm and field background cannot fail to understand that. A totally new 'language miscommunication' seems to have arisen since the Kremlin made a huge leap to everything "elite". How can the Belarusian peoples' president be understood by Russian leaders with his Belarusian accent while his ex-friends now speak in the new elite Russian? The same Lukashenko keeps repeating that Belarus wants to be a sovereign and independent nation without looking to the West (or East) waiting for "some crumbs" to be thrown from the "rich tables". He is smart enough to understand that the EU isn't waiting for Belarus with open arms; the EU's lukewarm approach demonstrates just that. If re-elected, Lukashenko will face a choice to either ask Russia to apologise for its TV smear campaign or to reciprocate in the same 'fashion' two years later. Something is telling me that neither will happen.
