February 05, 2010 10:57

Analysts are wary and skeptical of the first step in building “a new architecture of missile defense” that Washington is making in Romania.

This topic is puzzling me, especially after viewing the following link: http://rt.com/usa/ news/obama-missile-e urope-reality/ &nbs p; The USA knows that Romainia, Poland or Czech Republic does not have the military expertise to take apart one of the interceptor missiles and study it whereas Russia has years of experience, perhaps that's why they are excluding Russia. If interceptor missiles technology is same or similar to what Russia already has, then perhaps USA does not trust Russia. Otherwise USA might have alternative motives. Who knows.

Do you feel that you have enough moral background to be sarcastic? Two words for you: Ribbentrop - Molotov.

Again you're not using your analytical skills and again your are threatening my country. And you know that this not impress me at all. It shows me that I am in the right military alliance. I guess now we know both who are our friends and who are our enemies. Good luck electing "democratically"your czar for a lifetime mandate. BTW, latest news show that Bulgaria is ready to do the same as Romania did, protecting itself from the "peaceful saviour" from the East.

Now we have all sorts of confusion and lack of facts. First the argument was about Stalin, then it shifted to protecting Europe. Then the realisation came that it all means instant death for Romania, whilst those far away bring up their kids and enjoy life. Now we hear about consultations, when every one knows the whole problem has been the lack of consultation. What Russia has been offered is defacto here is what we are doing, live with it. Indeed Obama actually said that the change in missile defence lately had nothing to do with Russia. This wasn't consultation it was just information. Then we hear about no one needing troops on their land for protection, well strange point to make, since you will have US ones there controlling the missiles. Then we here about Russians being part of the entire system. Well we saw exactly how Russians were treated as peacekeepers in Georgia. When the US want to strike, will they just shoot the observers, it seems there is a history of it. Those ICBMS travel mighty fast you know. Then to top it all, sitting in the Romanian 'democracy' people are saying the people have no control. Well my answer is, as you live in such a privileged democracy, go and take some control with a simple vote and political party. It's all very well talking of the kids, but Russian kids have a right to life and hapiness as well. Do you really feel so happy that you are helping build a military system which is directly aimed at destroying them! and as a collateral consequence your kids too. Russia is not targeting Romania, and I doubt Iran is either. So why put your people in peril to protect someone else, why do it just to enable an attack on Russia.

First, about naive people , war scenarios and some other similar stuff : Russia was consulted extensively about the missile shield. Russia said before that it has no sense to place some interceptors in Poland or Czech Republic, it is more logic to be placed in Bulgaria or Romania. Romania was chosen but I am pretty sure Bulgaria will host some components. Second, I can see from all your posts here that you perceive yourself (like the Americans) as saviours of the world. Flash news: nobody needs saving troupes on their territory. Third, if your government is posing as not knowing anything about this situation I think you should ask yourself who is naive now. Fourth, as previously stated Russia will participate in the structures of control of the entire system. Fifth, and the most important point: if you consider that us, the regular John or Ivan or Ion have access to all the important data, or we have any contribution at all about this decision we are really really stupid. Finally our entire dialog was for nothing and it shows that we are still immature people trying to demonstrate who has it bigger and that my daddy can beat your daddy. Shame on us! Let's grow up and try to do as much as we can about the election of our government and make the life of our family a little bit better.

How naive and uninformed are the Romanian people. This system has zero chance to protect you from a strike from us. Indeed the whole point, is that the system is just a part of a US offensive system against Russia. Indeed the US will quite happily accept the collateral damage to Romania to get the advantage. The problem is that we will strike at it first, to destroy the advantage as tensions rise. So now you have a great destabilizing situation, the US will think of having to launch first against Russia, to keep the advantage, Russia will need to think about striking Romania first to destroy the advantage. The first option leads to full out escalation, the second option still allows a route back from full escalation. You work it out which path is more likely! When the big boys want to look after themselves. Taking out Romania would just restore the balance and de-escalate the situation, Wow every one is relieved that Romania provided such a good service, a safety valve. Remember Article five doesn't mean the big boy dies for the little boy, Article five is fully fulfilled sending a bullet or a helmet in the post.

Adrian. Romanian armies go all the way to the Volga over a little fly speck like Moldova? No my friend, you went along for the ride all the way. Sadly the people of Romania did not ask for their fate but then they did not stand up to the Nazis either. Russia can be your friend or your enemy, the choice is yours. As is the choice of living in the present or the past. I know your leaders historically have little respect for the people of Romania nor do they care for them in the long run. I suggest your people make better choices.

A defensive missile system is for Europe's protection and Romania will be protected because of it. Should we protect ourselves against Russia? Are you planning to attack Europe?

Romania needs missiles because of Stalin, but officially Romania and US says the missiles aren't aimed at Russia.

Why mother Romania ally with Hitler? Because your mother Russia took Basarabia, sent its intellectuals in Siberia and invented the Moldavian nation and the Moldavian language. Romania was with Germany against Russia at that time for the same reason Russia attacked Georgia: to protect its co-nationals. Let's not forget that the biggest criminal in the history of the world was not Hitler, but Stalin. And against a stalinist Russia that war was led. But what happen next? Stalin impose a leadership that kill Romanian elite and because of the communist era we have today's social and economical problems. Do not get me wrong, I have Russians friends, I like Russian intellectuality, Russian sport, Russian science but I hate Russian imperialism especially when is directed against us. And because you bullied too many times my country we felt that we had to do something to be protected. And we did. Now you say that you will nuke us. Good luck trying to kill us. You might succeed but the price that you will pay will be huge. I am ready to die than to be again a slave. Are you? BTW, Romania received plenty of help to recover from crisis from our allies. Do not worry at all about us. We manage very well our business.

@scrat335 Romanian people think: Thank your government's actions for the interceptors. Last year when youngsters were tortured and girls raped in the dungeons of the communist police in Chisinau, Mr Medvedev was kisssing the communist Voronin and assuring him of the support of the russian people against the "imperialist" romanians. Now when there is hard proof of Voronin regime's crimes and when even his aide admitted that he coordinated the planting of the romanian flag on the Parliament just to divert attention from the youngsters revolt, we hear no appologies from Mr Medvedev. Moroover, Voronin is meeting H.B. Patriarch Filaret. You know, we're some very old hard headed orthodox people and we know that one cannot praise Christ and Lenin in the same time (no ofense, just our belief). I don't know if in the end we will agree with interceptors in our country, but we would have a pretty good cause to do so. I find it strange you don't remember that at the beginning of WWII Mr Hitler and Mr Stalin shook hands and each of them took a chunk of my country. Bottom line: we make friends with people that act like friends not like enemies.

No way is Romania acting alone. This is a test of Russia again, just like in 2007 and 2008. Sounds like it is time to move the Iskanders back to Kaliningrad, and sell those jets to Iran. That deal has been held up, and Russia should fulfill its promises to a trading partner. Yes? Then we will see what sort of negotiations arise.
