ROAR: NATO considers Russia’s security strategy

Moscow has reiterated that NATO enlargement is a threat to Russia’s security and has revealed its own strategic plans to the alliance.
To be honest, only an idiot doesn't see that military hardware on your border is not a threat. It is a threat regardless of whether you are the greatest of friends or the greatest of enemies. It is a plain military fact, that you always need counter a military build up, by whoever it is. It is the reason that CFE existed before, it is the reason for DMZs it is the reason for buffer zones, it is the reason for buffer states...... These are the military realities of life, borders are precarious places at the best of times, putting forces close together on either side, is a recipe for disaster, especially when they are adversaries. A Security architecture for all is what is necessary, and that is what Russia is pushing for, and quite rightly too. We want a balanced system, encompassing all nations rights and security considerations. It is the only way to try to guarantee peace. pushing harder and harder on the NATO plunger with Russia on the other side, is a recipe for detonation, Russia knows this and NATO is starting to realize it too. There are two ways to go here, either to the point of detonation under NATO pressure, or an inclusive approach to guarantee Russia's security as well. As Russia is going nowhere, the ball is in NATO's court. NATO therefore will decide what happens next. But have no doubt, a push to detonation means an end to Europe, it is as simple, blunt and brutal as that. Europe is realizing this fact today and is coming to terms with securing peace for the next 60 years. They are wise and now know NATO expansion is one of the biggest threats to that security today. Russia will not be intimidated and threatened, so attack and we will answer. That answer because of inferior numerical numbers will be a nuclear response to take out platform assets in Europe and advanced formations, it is a s simple as that. So either work with us and guarantee our security, or we will guarantee it fully ourselves. This is the reality on the ground.

According to the article, Russia’s meeting with NATO representatives was to explain “why we see the approach of NATO's military infrastructure to our borders as a threat.” So why does Russia see NATO as a threat? We would love to know, and the article neatly avoids clarifying this. For reasons of Russian psychology, nurtured through the Soviet era and subsequently not overcome nor left behind, Russians don’t like THE IDEA OF NATO. Whereas his does mean that there is a problem, it does not mean that NATO is the problem. Russia’s mind-set is problem, and that is something only Russians themselves can change. The outside world does not take kindly to the suggestion that it should change so as to better fit in with Russia’s misapprehensions.
