The only reason why Iran is trying to make the nuke is to defend itself. Because USA and Israel won't hesitate to use a couple of their own on Iran, when they decide to do it. In fact, Israel's nukes are already pointed at Iran, they only need to push the button… The only reason why the Cold War was in stalemate is the fact that both USA and USSR got the nukes… Whoever has the nuke, can be sure that no one would dare to mess with him.
Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, is a masterful diplomat and perhaps one of the most qualified foreign minister in the world at this moment. However, Mr. Lavrov must be mindful that Russia makes its own independent assessment of what makes a region or a country ‘unstable.’ Russia must not accept strategic labeling of some countries 'unstable' because these countries and regions do not follow the Washington consensus.

Can you point me to current UN Resolutions forbidding the export of weaponry to Israel? Iran has run into problems because, unlike Israel, they chose to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. If Iran complied with or withdrew from the NPT (as North Korea has done), the UN sanctions on Iran would no longer apply. Maybe Russia, like most other countries around the world has realised that
1) Iran really are trying to develop nuclear weapons and
2) A nuclear armed Iran might be a threat to many countries, including Russia.
