Russia-Ukraine gas row: heating up again

Another fuel row seems to be brewing between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine needs about $5 billion dollars to fill its gas reservoirs for next winter – a pressing problem for Kiev with Ukraine in financial crisis.

It looks like the only way-out for Russia’s gas transit dependency is to go ahead, as soon as possible, with the South Stream. Politicians in Kiev seem to be worried more about their political future, than the reputation of the country as a global partner. I’m wondering who the EU would blame this time? Of course the Russians, who else! They don’t even try to bring Kiev back to the right direction or help them to avert the relapse of the gas crises which is becoming persistent. I think some EU members need this row to undermine Russia’s position as a global geopolitical player.
