A Russian court has been asked to sentence self-exiled tycoon Boris Berezovsky to nine years jail on embezzlement and money-laundering charges associated with Aeroflot airlines, whose shares he held in the mid-1990s.
UK is gaining EU support in the row with Russia, following Moscow's refusal to hand over Andrey Lugovoy to London, where he is accused of murder. Four Russian diplomats, whose names have not been released, must reportedly leave Britain within 10 days.
Russia's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin has announced that Moscow will expel four British diplomats in retaliation at London's decision to expel four Russian diplomats.
The suspended head of Russia’s Investigation Committee, Dmitry Dovgy, claims Boris Berezovsky was behind the murder of prominent journalist Anna Politkovskaya. Dovgy, who has supervised many high-profile cases, made the statement in an interview with the
Britain’s Foreign Office has criticised Russia for ‘shrinking the democratic space’ in the country. Russia was listed among 22 other countries of concern, including Iran, China and Afghanistan.
