On Wednesday, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili unveiled the country’s tallest monument. The “Tower of Heroes” is in honor of the soldiers who died for independence – but only to the ones who fought against Russia.
I agree with you Gazza...If it wasnt about Russia, history show, there will be no Georgia nation or state of today! Many Georgians sold their kids in Instambul market(Turkie) just to survive before Russia free them and give them a state. You been a slaves without any hope-a nation who been judged to perish! Russians give you back your lives, freedom, statehood and NOBODY ELSE! I can not believe how is, something like that possible to forget ever!Nation who forgot all of this and put in power someone as Saakashvili have to be aware of future!I am sorry about all victims in this war but this monument for me represent a guilt of Saakashvili who started war at 3 am in Nazi style killing innorcent people in their beds and Russian peacekeepers...Its not Russia who started-Its your Army on orders from(West) Saakashvili ! Georgians who lost their lives - die becouse of Saakashvili fault ! He is the last person on this planet to be there and to talk about that-its all about further brainwashing of Georgian nation. With this insane man in power a grave danger for your state will remain ...Thanke you
This blood red metal tube and plastic tower is as weird as the condom-like projection from roof of Saakashvili's palace. Saakashvili truly is insane.
How much did it cost? We are in an Worldwide Economic Recession and Saakashvili has spent too much money from the national budget of Georgia in unnecessary things: a) War in South Ossetia and Abkhazia: How many USD did it cost? (apart from lifes) b) Destroying old monuments and building new ones? How many USD did it cost? How much does it cost to the Georgian taxpayer?
the monument is missing something .... ah yes ... the sakishvili on top
Finally a quite balanced and well written article against Saakashvili. Especially by the end. My repspects to the author!
I too also fully agree with you Gazza you have hi the bullseye with your statement. This is yet another piece of a large network of "Brainwashing" Georgians about their history, and quiet literally spitting on their own legacy at the same time, the world seriously needs to question themselves about doing business with Saakashvili's Georgia, I fully respect Georgian's legacies from which they first was in their inception. But it's a real shame that one person especially a Georgian would desecrate this. I can only offer my most sincerest respect and sympathy to the civilians and history and Georgian's themselves not Saakashvili's Georgians. I'am so happy and glad that Both Abkhazia and South Ossetia are officially free from this mad man as in the long term will become a detriment to Georgia's future. As for this monument I find it to be a complete abomination and should have never been erected and built, as it holds no historical value, Just simply madness. Russia and Georgia have always had differences in the past and present but when the Soviet Union merged these two entities they were as one entity but when the Soviet Union collapsed both countries had their own mutual economical and political problems and deficits and I would have though that being former brothers in arms from Post-Soviet era they would have at least banded together not fight each other, for which at least enemies would have respect for each other. I suppose the only way forward for Georgia is to finally see the end of Saakashvili's regime once and for all as it has lasted for far too long and has prevented Georgia to be proud of their History and enjoy their culture, and thus be all a Georgian can be and that is free of Tyranny
this monument won't stand the test of time, perhaps when saakashvili's regime collapses, and a pragmatic leadership comes to Georgia, they will leave this monument as a "gorey reminder" of an oppressive Georgian leader, just as in another Georgian town, there is a "Gori reminder" of another Georgian leader who brutalised millions. Also, many Georgians died in WW2, and the collective memory of their brave sacrifice is something that can't be "knocked down" by an egotistical maniac.(Saakashvili)

Saakashvili is a tie-eating lunatic, meglomaniacal dictator and war criminal. Is anyone still surprised at the insane antics of this crazy nutbag?
