Church services to commemorate the victims of the war in South Ossetia are held in Abkhazia. Many in the Republic think that if Georgia had achieved its plan to crush South Ossetia, they would have been the next target.

“Russia, I suppose, had to respond to that [Georgian assault], but the way it responded… was devastating to its image,” says Donald Rayfield, professor of Georgian and Russian Studies at the University of London.

This is a textbook example of how naive the rest of the world is or should we say more accurate hemispatial neglect the west has become. This stance of Russia being the big bad wolf to rescue the Saakashvili saga is simply a naïve and utterly dangerous road. When I listen to this man, I only have to go back to the book The Grand Chessboard by Zbigniew Brzezinski to find all the loopholes where his entire assessment with the Taskhinavil situation is sunken to the bottom of the sea. Where do these men spring up? How can they possibly get professor status to begin with? I am a simple man; I have read books on my spare time and can utterly waive this mans points. The entire interview is a pipe dream based on utopian delusions of grandeur. Unfortunately this pipe is full of bullet wholes. If someone would tell me that Georgia would simply recognize Tskhinvali if they expelled all Russian peacekeeper and let them be if they didn’t had Russian passports I think I would position myself in a imaginary world where doves are yellow or pink. Sorry If I don’t buy the good professors load of crap. Want to know how the west or European Union want it to be, go to the library and find The Grand Chessboard by Zbigniew Brzezinski and you will soon see my point as you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to notice that everything has transpired according to this plan.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda...the Ossetians showed me nothing but courtesy when I was there at the outbreak of hostilities and afterward. Everyone has the right to self-determination and the majority of Ossetians don't want to be part of Georgia. Whether the Georgians felt provoked or otherwise, Russia itself was only responding to calls for help from it's peacekeepers and fulfilling said peacekeeping role when it counterattacked. Left unanswered, Georgian aggression would today be seen by such people as the Professor as nothing more than their right. Note his comment re. the Isle of Man and Great Britain. When Argentina attacked the Falklands they wasted no time sending a warship, despite legitimate Argentinian claims. Aggression was answered with force and what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Ha,ha I think this proves my point people aren't stupid people are waking up. Now my wife found something how should I put it interesting, even though it might be a bit far fetched, symbolism and power has always been close to the truth. Have a look at this it was amusing and a bit scary at the same time, not that I am much of a conspiracy theorist, only that to many dots connects. Want a trip into the future; want to know what the globalist elite is hinting at, what eventually will transpire. Have a look, it is not that far fetched, its educational. Even if this link wont tell all about the real agenda, it is interesting. I refer all questions to the book by Zbigniew Brzezinski The Grand Chessboard American Primacy And It's Geostrategic Imperatives if you want the open and nationalised recognized political correct version of this story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kqYbIDUZnk&feature=related

@ Shilka.maskirovka - This American agrees and is disgusted by that type of foreign adventurism. There are many other things we could have spent that money on, but we had leaders with mad dreams of empire and who seem to have never given up on Cold War spending. You might also find "interesting" the document called "Project for New American Century", which seems to have been the operating plan of the Bush administration. Also the book called "The Oil Drum" explains how the oil market has been manipulated as part of American foreign policy. Taken together, these do not paint a very nice picture of my country. In our defense, I can say that the current administration is at least reviewing past actions, and we are starting to investigate the biggest financial criminals that are still in the US. The global criminals are out of our control, unfortunately.

In general the the US public do not understand anything goingon beyond their own street. There is an agenda to do the same to all the young populations in their allied countries. That way nobody understands or cares about anything beyond their front door. Western civilisation has become an invitation to become stupid and totally uninformed, and thereby blind to what is done in our names. When a country signs up to NATO it allows that body to intervene in the country's education system!!! Even Ireland, nominally neutral, was asked repeatedly to join NATO and supply troops for the war in Iraq! Aherne did not allow it, but amazingly the flags fluttering outside Nato HQ in Kabul include the Irish flag. A mistake??? Whilst the economic boom is over in Ireland, a new govt attack against financial support for cultural issues has been launched. Even in the boomtime, the Aherne govt attempted to close down 7 Irish language schools, despite 70 percent of parents preferring Irish medium education. The Irish govt was being pressured to lose any symbol of its independence, and become a piece of America on the wrong side of the Atlantic. We must know the reality of who are our friends.

The professor's analysis was intelligent, and I agree with his assessment that Russia's intervention was justified but that Russia did a horrible job of selling it to the international community. The West seems have an arbitrary belief in the sanctity of Georgia's territorial integrity which I, although an American, do not understand. In my view, popular calls for self-sovereignty shouldn't be opposed if they lead to greater regional stability. Georgia's insistence on maintaining territory that it had long lost led to a pointless war and humanitarian disaster. The de facto separatist states already had their own democratic governments. Georgia should have simply let them be. And the international community should recognize them. Georgia should mind its own development rather than pursue pointless and immoral battles. US support for the Georgian military and cause seems largely fueled by Russophobia. The USSR would've taken the opportunity to conquer Georgia. Russia didn't.
