Vladimir Kremlev for RT

Liberation Tigers of Tamil-Elam in Sri-Lanka are about to be wiped out by the state army. The end of the long-fought civil war is in sight. But victory may not come so easily as international media joins the game.

A great piece. Clear and clever. Tasty too. I think I'm going to check Russia Today regularly from now on.

Superbly insightful and knowledgable article. This is the truth, and nothing but the truth. I guess good journalism can only be found where financial and personal interests and political expediency do not have an influence, which is not the case for exalted news organisations such as BBC and CNN. I am going to bookmark this site.

Mr Belenkiy I must say that this is one of the greatest articles and best pieces of investigative journalism that I have ever read on this issue. Your honesty and noble pursuit of the truth of the events going on, and the most recent media war against the Sri Lankan state and Sri Lankan people is so admirable. It is indeed extremely hard not to fall victim to the “conventional wisdom” on this issue, and do as so many other so-called “journalists” do and just repeat what their biased, corrupt colleagues say. Not all journalists of the west are so biased, but their voices are drowned out by the shrill, sensationalist, and often juvenile, wails of the massed ranks of the terrorist propaganda network. Also ignored by the western media is that the vast majority of the Tamil Terrorists' targets were Sinhalese civilians, slaughtered in their hundreds by suicide-truck bombs rammed into offices such as the Bank of Ceylon building in 1996 (killing 200, maiming thousands), suicide women bombers blowing themselves up in trains and buses packed with Sinhalese on their way home after a hard day's work, and the hundreds of little Sinhalese children blown up by suicide bombers in their schools and buses - the most recent of these was in February this year, targeting an under-10 year olds baseball team. And equally horrific has been the atrocious crimes against humanity carried out by these Tamil Terrorists, with the complete knowledge and support of the Tamils in the west and in Sri Lanka, the attacks which occurred in their earliest days. They raided Sinhalese villages and hacked to death - HACKED TO DEATH - these unsuspecting villagers. This included the hacking open of pregnant Sinhalese women, slamming their foetuses into the ground and crushing them under foot. Then they would rape the mother in front of her husband, and then kill her. Finally they disembowelled the father and then killed him. Also there were the countless beheadings of Sinhalese children - driving entire villagers to hide in the surrounding jungle every night to escape the raids – often timed on New Year days or Buddhist holy days. On finding empty villages, the tamils burnt them down and then scoured the jungles for victims. Their child soldiers had to pass the final test before entry to the Terrorist organization by hacking to death at least one Sinhalese villager - "to make the first kill more personal" (quote from a captured child soldier). Their attacks also targeted the Buddhist foundation of Sri Lanka's society. There were the countless attacks on Sinhalese Buddhist pilgrims, their separation from buses etc. and killing of only them. Initiated monks of 5, 6, 7, 8 years old were shot in the head at point blank range in numerous raids on Buddhist monasteries, they found with the skulls fragmented into tiny pieces floating in their blood. The Sri Dalida Maligawa - the holiest and one of the most ancient Buddhist sites in the country was suicide bombed as well, but no complaints from the western preachers of “peace” or their media mouthpieces were ever heard. There is also the ethnic cleansing of the northern and eastern regions, removing all Sinhalese and Muslims from these areas in the early 1990s, but as you said, these were not reported by anyone. As the Tamil Terrorists were being pushed into smaller and smaller areas at the beginning of this year, the Tamils responded not with some sort of military attack, no no, but rather more of the old-style village attacks, killing toddlers and babies in the dead of night, on the early morning of this year's Sinhala New Year on April 13th-14. The President ordered a ceasefire in honour of this New Year, which is shared between the Sinhalese and Tamils, which is what the international community has been demanding. And in response, the Terrorists attacked the most vulnerable of Sinhalese people. Where were the media outcries and the NGO and "human rights" groups' condemnations? They simply ignored these most recent attacks, not a single word. So it appears that the lives of Tamil Terrorists and their Supremacist Tamil civilians is far more valuable than those of the Sinhalese, who have been oppressed and subjugated and discriminated against in their own, only homeland, for hundreds of years of occupation and most recently for 30 years of brutal tamil terrorism. The current “humanitarian catastrophe” in the tiny strip of land is also a direct result of these same corrupted anti-Sinhalese anti-Buddhist NGOs, as they told the civilians to keep moving with the terrorists rather than head to government areas as the northern front was opened up. And what was the reason for the unleashing of Hell against the Sinhalese by the Tamils and their foreign backers? The loss of the Tamils' British given privileges and power over the Sinhalese Buddhists. During independence talks, Tamil leaders demanded the British set up a "50-50 System" for the new parliament, such that 50% of the seats were reserved for the sole use of Tamils, and the remaining 50% to be contested by the Sinhalese, Burghers, Moors, Malays, AND any other Tamils who wanted a go. This would have extended the British colonial government's Tamil dominated apartheid system, and further entrenched it! The British said no to this preposterous claim, and when the majority of MPs elected were Sinhalese, as would be natural in a country where over 80% were (and are) Sinhalese, they cried "discrimination and marginalization." Then, later on, it was discovered that the Tamils who were placed in power in the civil service, professions and universities by the British as a reward for their servitude and inverterate sucking up to the British, had been fixing exam scores of students to favour Tamils and increase their number in the professions (including medicine, law, dentistry, science, agriculture, engineering etc) and civil service. Special classes had been held to teach the tamil students what concentrations they should be "finding" in the chemistry practical examination the next day. They claim 40% of the land mass, and 70% of its coast, for the sole use of 10% of the population, but Tamils would be allowed to live in the South too – so how long before they demanded their real desire – the whole of the country? They based these “borders” on a never existed and never recorded “ancient tamil homeland” which their western agents and paid historians have fabricated tall tales about, but they are unable to provide any evidence, not a scrap, which proves the existence of such a homeland, and they are unable to disprove that the entire island was ruled by one Sinhalese King since the founding of the country some 3000 years ago. These are just a few of the racist anti-Sinhalese anti-Buddhist actions being carried out by Tamils in Sri Lanka to oppress and subjugate the Sinhalese. When they were corrected by the authorities, often belatedly, Tamils and their western puppetmasters (just as in the colonial period) cried "discrimination" and "marginalization" and that the tamils were "second class citizens." How? In Sri Lanka, due to a law put in place by the Portugese in 1505 (first colonizers who were able to capture most of Sri Lanka's northern coastal regions - though not inland regions - thanks to Tamil treachery) it is ILLEGAL for a Sinhalese to buy or own land in the Northern regions of their OWN country. This law stands to this day. But Tamils can buy land and live anywhere in the country, and most of them (60%) live in the South, with for example over 30% of the population of the capital Colombo being Tamil, living without any problems or "harassment." So tell me, who is really the second class citizen, and marginalised? The Sinhalese of course. The Tamil Supremacists' most recent terrorist war for an independent homeland to be carved out of Sri Lanka is just the most recent and most modern chapter in a centuries' old war that Tamil Supremacists originating from their homeland of Tamil Nadu (nadu=homeland in tamil language) of South India, which sought the capture of Sri Lanka and the annihilation of the Sinhalese race. They have failed several times in history, and for the 600 years prior to the arrival of the Portugese not a single Tamil despot even dared try to invade. But with the colonial occupation and especially for the last 150 years of British rule, the Tamils' egos and superiority complexes and racist ambitions inflated to never before seen proportions. Founded, funded and trained by Indira Gandhi's anti Sri Lankan government, and now perpetuated for 30 years by the materials, propaganda and diplomatic support of several corrupt Tiger bloodmoney taking government&media agents and NGOs of the west, the Tamil terrorists and supremacist civilians thought they would win. But yet again, they failed, just as their barbaric ancestors of the past were defeated by courageous and brave Sinhalese Kings.

Dear Vladimir The well oiled Sinhalese propaganda machine is functioning very well, that why you have seen a comment bigger than your article :-) You are from former USSR, you are a journalist, you know the truth. You know why Sri Lankan government has kept 300000 Tamils in IDP camps without allowing NGOs to meet them. The fact is Sinhalese are afraid of any voices for Tamils. Status of IDP camps. Time tells it all. The article is researched badly or even malicious with ulterior motives. I know that I fled persecution and 'smuggled' myself independent of any such methods of fleeing war or conscription. Where the article fails with time is the wrong attribution of claim of Genocide ... As far as I know not one major media outlet (with all due respect to RT -- RT inclusive) invariably with politics behind it, claims (as of Jan 10) they cry of 'genocide' from the largely refugee Tamil protesters to be true. Still the recently concluded People's Tribunal in Dublin needs to be taken into account. Involvement of the likes of Denis Halliday, a judge at the tribunal exemplifies the poor media coverage of issues pertaining to genocide under the cyrrent global climate of war and destruction. Let us remind ourselves what Mr. Halliday said about Iraq before further disaster befell that oil rich nation... "[...] I refused to continue to take Security Council orders, the same Security Council that had imposed and sustained genocidal sanctions on the innocent of Iraq. I did not want to be complicit. I wanted to be free to speak out publicly about this crime. And above all, my innate sense of justice was and still is outraged by the violence that UN sanctions have brought upon, and continues to bring upon, the lives of children, families – the extended families, the loved ones of Iraq. There is no justification for killing[...]" Now Sri Lanka, a country in stressful existence from 1972 (became a republic from British influence) had been oppressing Tamils for at least 50 years and had militarily imposed what it terms 'peace'. I call this a carefully constructed modern day genocide that fits every notion of laws that seem to have been drafted to tackle genocide in Europe 60 years ago. I do not see any significant media coverage anywhere and wish it was not like this. Thank you.
