This is a sensible decision by Ukraine. NATO operates with the mentality of an American street gang in that once a nation joins the organization that nation must be willing to shed blood for the organization and the organization is constantly looking for new recruits. And, like an American street gang, NATO uses fear, intimidation and bribery to spread it's influence. NATO's tentacles are already creeping into all nations around the Russian Federation. Ukraine does not need NATO. She has a credible military of her own and has no enemies except perhaps NATO itself.

Russia's leaders are not fools, they understand the big NO to the North American Totalitarian Organization. Why would any human being in the 21st Century say yes to a 17th Century idea dressed up as a "protector" in modern times AND when we "see their fruits" we understand the most mental have looped their concepts into a "unipolar" world of incredible dark age mentality. Russia was indeed chosen by a divine hand to bring back the spanking upon those who do not obey the greatest law of this planet, and that would be God's ... therefore, absolutely no more of this hundreds of years to yoke those who are less predatory. Why the predatory of earth continue to believe the times have not changed is due to the pharmacy notion of sane, which has become a chemical reaction of toxic shame since stealing as much and killing as many is not exactly acts of love for one God who decided the earth's creation and not an antiquated insanity. THANK GOD FOR RUSSIA'S "ENLIGHTENMENT" AND MAY RUSSIA REMEMBER TO NOT DO UNTO OTHERS (IRAN, ET AL.) THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO HER.

This is good news, it is surprising how military organizations change their spots. I think Ukraine best play between both Russia and Europe because it has feet in both worlds. It can be hard and probably will be but I think the Ukrainian people can pull it off. They are a very admirable bunch.

this is an entirely sovereign decision, hahah!Jaap De Hoop Schaffer, what do you have to say about this???all the neo cons are noticebly silent on this one, but, surely, this is a huge embarrassment for those who funded the Orange Failure,,,, Just as NATO's "open door policy" states that any sovereign nation has the right to choose it's allies (even if the nation in question is only as sovereign as the puppet government installed by the west), by their logic, any sovereign has a right not to join an alliance if it chooses so,hence the silence from the west on this issue!!!hahahahahah!

I cannot be more happy to hear that Ukraine's President Yanukovich to dash NATO aspiration's as this will indeed usher in full calm in the former Soviet space also recently ridding Ukraine's Pro-Western Naval Chief too Ukraine is most certainly under a whole new Overhaul of what Ukraine has been wishing to look and feel like ever since their independence from the Soviet Union, Free,Individual, prosperous, and for it's people. I hope that one day the world will see NATO as the biggest Post-WWII aggressor in existence today, they always want to create a political storm when Russia and it's allies appeal for calm so not joining NATO is the most best decision that one country can do. Go Free Ukraine for your people.

It sounds like, that, all these comments came from the same source! NATO is not the warsaw pact,if compairing military alliances.Which I believe the mentality of comments seem to lean towards. OH! By the way. RT you are biased because of who actually controls the media in your country any how!

Victor Yushenko should join Boris Berezovsky in England and hopefully Georgia's Shakashvilli and Poland's President Lech Kaczynski join them soon.

In my opinion this is very bad. Since the parliament will pass a law prohibiting the country from joining ANY military alliances, it will mean, that apart from not joining the NATO anymore, which is a great success, it cannot join the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organisation) either! And that, I think, is a pity!
