With over 99% of the votes counted, the leader of the Party of Regions, Viktor Yanukovich, is ahead of Premier Yulia Timoshenko by 3.47 % in the presidential runoff.

Russia does not want Ukraine to join NATO because they want to always feel like they can tell them what to do. They know if they join NATO that they will not be able to bully Ukraine anymore. I hope they join NATO.

Russia should absolutely take similar measures to not let them be fooled and played by old western tricks in the so called name of democracy. this goes for political, strategical and territorial issues. Ylia Timoshenko reminds me of Italy's La Cicciolina - not that she is of course; however, Ylia's campaign resembles the carnival La Cicciolina used to surround herself with. Now, Ylia is screeching that she will lead street protests if she does not win. If the Ukrainians are foolish enough to elect Ylia, then not even billions of dollars in American handouts can save the country from economic ruin.
Does it matter what MAJORITY of people want? That is at what we in Serbia have now! Majority does NOT want NATO and wants that Serbia stays NEUTRAL and with traditionally good relations with Russia! We do NOT WANT to renounce Kosovo! Our puppet government under the PRESSURE from USA will (despite 75%Serbs who are AGAINST NATO) ask now to become member of that criminal organization! By doing that they will AUTOMATICALLY give recognition to Kosovo and approve NATO CRIME in bombing of Serbia as something positive! As result that will not be acceptable for majority of the Serbs but seen as pure TREACHERY and will start CIVIL WAR in Serbia ! West will support Serb pro-USA puppet Government and handful of traitors against the MAJORITY of the population(as usual)! Only be cause WEST (USA & NATO) REFUSE to give legitimate right to the people to DECIDE about their future ! They use PROMISES and BLACKMAILS also about entering in EU to FORCE Serb people to renounce Kosovo! Serbia and Ukraine might be on the brink of the CIVIL WARS be cause of USA and NATO that NEVER RESPECT will of the nations outside the West and always try to impose their CONTROL with ALL kinds of dirty games and manipulation of the people! Jako, Believe me when I say this, Serbia will NEVER be a member of NATO. They do not let genocidal countries in. I would also be willing to bet that you will not even join NATO, even though your country is at the feet of both begging looking for somewhere to fit in. Russia is a guarantee for democracy in Europe. The presidental election was honest and fair in Ukraine because Russia managed to keep USA and CIA out of the process as a result of the post Georgian war negotiations between Russia, USA and NATO.

Not having a vote in the UKRAINE election, my choice is probably not as objective as voting Ukraine citizens. My choice is one hundred per cent for the beautiful TIMOSHENKO. She is probably the best female politician in the world today. Perhaps she can share the top positions with YANUKOVICH acting as her RIGHT HAND MAN. Russians seem to prefer Yanukovich over Timoshenko but I believe Ukraine will do much better if Timoshenko stays in power. She has done a much better job than Russians will admit. VIVA TIMOSHENKO. You write that Yanukovich "will not kick out" the Russian Black Sea Fleet from the Crimea. In fact, just in case anyone has forgotten, Russia and Ukraine mutually agreed that the former would leave in 2017. It is, I have to say not for the first time, Russia which is trying to "kick out" an international agreement which no longer suits it.
