Will UN action on Gaza “war crimes” derail peace process?

Despite a diplomatic blitz by Israel to block passage of the Goldstone report, which accuses Israel and Palestinians of war crimes in the Gaza War, the UN on Friday voted to back the recommendations.
Why should it derail the peace process? Israel had been been doing the exactly same war crimes many times before and no one criticize it and yet it did not help any peace process before. So why will it now change, now that the world finally got the guts to point it out to them that what they are doing is a war crime. If Israel does not give Palestine a chance to exist and hold all Palestinians responsible for the actions of Hama, there will never be peace.
This reminds me of the international reaction to the Russian intervention in South Ossetia. Both Gaza and the 2008 South Ossetia war were defensive actions whose facts and origins were almost immediately lost among international media, to be replaced by stories of false atrocities and disproportionate force. I don't see why Russia doesn't support Israel in this. Israel's current government isn't only into counterterrorism, it also wants to build a situation in which everyone's security is more certain and where there are no reasons for further terrorism to occur--the exact same goals as Russia! Both countries have relatively progressive foreign policies, it would be easy for them to shed their history of troubled relations between 1967 and 1991 and start cooperating in the area of security. Even if we're talking in terms of bloc politics, it would make sense for Russia to become more friendly with Israel because their relations with the United States are cooled down significantly thanks to Obama.
@armen08: What kind of genocide and self-inflicted holocaust are you talking about? The current Israeli policies have nothing to do with the expansionist ones of the early '80s, and genocide has never been an Israeli policy--the Jews have already drunk enough of that cup to never want to touch it again. The current Israeli government is in favor of a two-state solution, and is willing to make extensive concessions. Right now the Palestinian side is the one holding out and hardening demands. The only ones we should denounce wholeheartedly are the terrorists, who make the process of building a secure peace settlement harder for everyone with their attacks on innocent civilians.
@Roberto: Israel has lost all claim to have been a victim of genocide. No matter how loud you yell, no matter how often Israeli criminals blame the Palestinians for the ongoing genocide in Palestine, history and facts cannot be changed. Go on, keep repeating Israeli lying points at infinitum. You will fool nobody. But you have no other choice. You have lost your freedom of thought, just as Israel has lost its moral integrity. No lies will help you, or Israel, to escape from this trap.

When will the United States delink itself from the horrors that Israel has been meting out on the Palestinian people since its inception? Will the world institutions ever hold Israel accountable for its crimes committed against the Palestinians--crimes that amount to blatant genocide? As long as Israel is able to hide behind the American shield--thanks to its cohorts in this country--there will never be peace with justice in the Middle East. Israel has condemned itself to a perpetual war and eventual self-destruction. This corrupt mentality will eat up the Israeli soul and the body until justice prevails. The sooner Israel realizes this self-inflicted holocaust, the better for the region's peoples, including the Israelis.
