Afghanistan could never have hoped to win a conventional war against America. If my country was invaded without a really good reason I would be an extremist too, which in this context is just another name for somebody desperate to restore thier countries true sovereignty. As for Russia helping the Amerians out. Sure if it will give Russia more leverage over US policy, go for it ... but we've seen the roles reversed when Russia went into Afghanistan before, US supplying the anti-commie extremists. The two situations are slightly different as times have changed, but it's still rather poetic justice to see the US reaping the seeds they had sown for the soviets, who might have stabilised Afghanistan if not for US intervention.

VERY VERY GOOD COMMENT. The only way to stabilize Afghanistand (perhaps other part of the world too) is to make it free of any kind of external agressors, SPECIALLY US AND NATO.
