“La Esmeralda” in The Bolshoi Theatre

A ballet in three acts by Cesare Pugni. It was first presented by the Ballet of her Majesty's Theatre in London on March 9, 1844, with Carlotta Grisi as Esmeralda, Jules Perrot as both Gringoire and the choreographer. The last time Moscow’s public could enjoy the all-time classic of “Esmeralda” in 1934. A second life has been given to the legendary ballet thanks to the head of the Bolshoi Theater ballet Yury Burlaka, together with choreographer Vasily Medvedev. The new production isn’t a precise copy of the original, but was closely based on its forerunner, the one staged by legendary Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Marius Petipa. Unlike the story by Hugo, Esmeralda does not die, and the ending is promised to be a happy one.

“The Best of Russia 2009” in Contemporary Art Center 'Winzavod'

"The Best of Russia 2009" is a public all-Russian annual project organized by WinZavod with the support of Russia's Ministry of Culture. The idea of the project is to capture the real life of the entire country within one year through bright, authentic and extraordinary photography, and to discover new talents capable of embodying today’s Russia with its beauty and contrasts. The contest was launched on May 15, 2009. Within five months, over 25,000 photographs were sent to the project’s headquarters to be later examined by a professional jury that included officials from the Ministry of Culture, chief editors of leading Moscow magazines and professionals from the Russian photo-community. Over 300 finalists have been chosen and now make up the exhibition.

“Dorian Gray” in 35 mm

“Dorian Gray” is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” It stars Ben Barnes and Colin Firth, and is directed by British filmmaker Oliver Parker, who is well-known for his previous works such as “Othello,” “The Importance of Being Earnest” and “St. Trinian's.” Story centers on Gray, a corrupt young man who becomes the subject of a painting. As the man descends into a hedonistic lifestyle, the portrait begins to age and morph, but he is able to keep his youthful beauty.
