Cinderella goes to space

The Bolshoi ballet will present seven performances of the classic Don Quixote and a brand new version of Cinderella to U.S. audiences at the Kennedy Center in Washington. The tour will last until February 25.
The best of the Bolshoi ballet is getting ready for the U.S. premiere. Their daily class may be routine, but the version of Cinderella is anything but ordinary. It's an unexpected performance of the fairytale, unlike the story we used to read as children. It takes place in space with an unusual setting and costumes.Bolshoi's prima ballerina, Svetlana Zakharova, says the jetlag helps her get into the role.“I'm in a bit of a cosmic state like the Cinderella, she lives on some other planet, she is dreamy and spacey like me after a long journey from Moscow,” the prima ballerina explains.Lunar surface, giant mirror wardrobe, aliens dancing – Bolshoi is re-telling the tale with unconventional designs by German stage architect Hans Dieter Schaal.The Bolshoi is known for its classic performances, but with the new take on Prokofiev's classic, the company hopes to leave Washington with a new reputation.discuss it
