Fashion photographer shuns fame and faces

The fifth international festival entitled “Fashion and Style in Photography” is underway in Moscow. With 30 exhibitions in Moscow's leading galleries, each day highlights several shows.

A group of Russian artists called “Moscow Plus-Minus” presented their project called “Library” featuring portraits of library visitors. Their aim is to deny that many youngsters are ignorant and infantile. On the contrary, they prove they are intelligent, educated and fashionable.

Well-known French artist Francoise Huguier used to take pictures in Africa and East Asia but now is a guru of fashion photography.

Her new idea is to depict models without faces.

“The essence of fashion photography is to show the actual clothes. That is the only thing that matters – models' faces, on the contrary – are unnecessary,” says the artist.

She usually works with just black-and-white pictures but for the current exhibition she has opted for colour photographs.

She shuns traditional ways of working at catwalk shows and prefers to shoot backstage, taking pictures from different angles.

Her idea to portray models without heads may seem odd to many and no fashion magazine will publish these works. Still, Huguier says proudly she ignores the lack of attention.
