Defending U.S. Open champion Maria Sharapova has been knocked out of the competition by Polish teenager Agnieska Radwanska.
The Russian failed to find any kind of rhythm in the first set, losing it 6-4 as her 18-year-old opponent adapted better to the windy conditions.
Sharapova rallied in the second set, winning it comfortably 6-1.
The Russian went a break up in the final set before errors crept in, allowing Radwanska to take control. The young Pole wrapped up the set 6-2 to claim her career’s most famous victory.
