CDs as cult objects
CD craze sweeps Russia (englishrussia.com)

These Russian guys are into a CD-ROM cult, a private religious group worshipping CDs (but denying DVDs in any form as a heresy). One of the main principles of their ideology is to use compact discs in every aspect of their life – they wear them like jewellery, use it in clothing and even use it at their parties.
