Enterprising Russians adopt odd jobs

As Russia’s economy continues to grow, more and more people are able to follow their dream careers. And some are going in quite unexpected directions.
A former construction worker, Vasily Zhukov, learned the craft of manicure from his wife and has turned her lessons into a successful beauty parlour.
“Young girls get tired of standard designs. They want something that will distinguish them from others. Show me a woman who doesn’t like to be the centre of attention,” he says.

Professional swordsmith
It’s not just the boys taking on unusual jobs. Maria Archangelskaya is a professional swordsmith. Some of her finished weapons can sell for up to $US 20, 000.
“My father really didn’t want me to work as a swordsmith. He was very much against it. But I’ve always been attracted to working with metal and fire. I don’t really care if people think it’s strange,” she says.
