A star is born: baby tapir wows Tokyo

Published 24 December, 2007, 10:29

A rare baby Malayan tapir has made her debut at Tokyo Zoo. At two weeks old she weighs 8 kilograms, walks freely around her mother and pretends to eat solids, though she's not yet capable of doing so.

Baby tapirs are born with a distinctive white stripe and dot pattern on their fur, which gradually disappears after about five months.
