Russian football clubs are gearing up for the new season and clashes in the UEFA Cup. Spartak Moscow and CSKA are both in action in the lucrative Channel One Cup.
The tournament is held in Israel. It sees Russian clubs compete with top sides from Israel and Eastern Europe for a total prize fund of $US 2 million, half of that having to be spent on youth development.
Spartak played Dynamo Kiev in their first match.
The Ukrainians took the lead after a thunderous strike from Sergey Rebrov.
That was just before half time and they got another within a couple of minutes. Carlos Correa was the scorer.
And on a dismal night for the Russians, Oleg Gusev completed a 3-0 win for Kiev in the dying stages of the match.
In another game, Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk eliminated Beitar Jerusalem 3-0.
