Tennis: Russia faces Serbian challenge in first round of Davis Cup

Published 06 February, 2008, 08:03

The Russian tennis team is preparing for a new Davis Cup campaign. Just like in 2007, where they had to travel to Chile without a number of key players, the 2008 draw has not been kind. Russia will play the emerging tennis superpower, Serbia.

The match will be played on a hard court in Moscow, similar to that used at the Australian Open, which will suit both sides. The tie gets underway with the opening singles on Friday.

World number four Nikolay Davydenko will be joined by Mikhail Youzhny, Marat Safin and Dmitry Tursunov.

Newly crowned Australian Open men's champion Novak Djokovic will be the biggest threat to Russian progress.
