Cosmonauts show their green fingers

As engineers at the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakstan complete last-minute checks before the launch of the latest mission to the International Space Station (ISS), the crew has been busy with more earthly tasks.

The two Russians and South Korea’s first female astronaut have taken part in the traditional pre blast-off tree planting ceremony.

Each of the cosmonauts – Commander Sergey Volkov, Flight Engineer Oleg Konanenko and South Korean, Yi So-yeon – planted a tree commemorating their expedition to the ISS.

Oleg Kotov, a cosmonaut who travelled to space last year with Expedition 15, also took part in the ceremony. And he says it’s a great moment, which helps the crew’s team spirit.
