Burnt by the Sun: Moscow youth celebrate joys of spring
Published 06 April, 2008, 16:46
The temperature in Moscow reached a record high this Sunday, rising above 19 degrees Celsius for the first time on April 6 since 1975. And with the sun shining bright over the city there was something of an unusual celebration.
A so-called 'flash mobbing' got a group of Muscovites bubbling with excitement. The practice of flash mobbing entails a group of people arranging to meet at a particular time and place – the more the merrier! But they also need to disperse quite quickly so as not to be open to charges of illegally demonstrating or obstruction.
Dozens responded to the call sent via internet and text messages.
It's not the first time Moscow flash mobbers have celebrated April in such a way.
They say they kept up the best traditions of flash mobbing – 20 minutes of fun and a quick exit.
That keeps participants from being taken away by police for violating the law on public gatherings, with strict limits on their timing.
