Countdown to blast-off: Soyuz arrives at launchpad

Published 06 April, 2008, 22:29

The Russian Soyuz spacecraft that's scheduled to blast off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Tuesday is now at the launch pad and has been raised into position. It's a process the technicians have carried out hundreds of times – but they all agree that each time is as nail-biting as the first.

The Soyuz rocket is due to carry the 17th crew to the International Space Station, including the first South Korean in space, Yi So-yeon, the first second-generation cosmonaut Flight Commander Sergey Volkov – his father was also a cosmonaut – and Flight Engineer Oleg Kononenko.
