The Russian Football Association is investigating a referee's claims that he was threatened by a politician during a premier league match. Aleksandr Gvardis officiated Terek's surprise 1:0 win over CSKA Moscow and turned down penalty appeals by the homeside in the first half.
The match took place in Chechen capital of Grozny.
Sovetsky Sport newspaper reports he was intimidated at half-time by a man wearing a Duma Deputy’s badge who said: “We can get you! If not here, then when you are at home!”
Terek, the Chechen team, went on to score a second half goal to win the match.
Mr. Gvardis included the incident in his post-match report.
Both he and the Russian FA were unavailable for comment on Monday.
