Debussy’s mystery back on Russian stage

Debussy's only completed opera “Pelleas and Melisande” hadn't been staged in Russia for almost a century. But now a joint Russian-French production, starring French theatre stars, is in the running for the Golden Mask award for theatre.
“Pelleas and Melisande”, based on Maurice Maeterlinck’s symbolic play, tells the story of destructive passion and forbidden love which even seem impossible in this world.
And the dark scenery, with its combination of shadows and light, adds to the dreamy and supernatural atmosphere of the opera.
