Russian fans of Formula One got a real treat on Sunday. Two of the sport’s top racing teams demonstrated their competition cars on an improvised Moscow circuit. It was part of a festival of motor racing, with other kin
AT & T Williams and Team Red Bull thrilled fans by putting their top cars through their paces on a Moscow track.
Always popular in Russia, the sport has been boosted since Mikhail Alyoshin became the first ever Russian Formula one driver. He joined team Red Bull just recently and is already earmarked for a bright future in F1.
“I'm very excited and anxious at the same time. I know it's just a demonstration race, but the level of anxiety is similar to that before a real race. We spent the whole day yesterday making sure all systems were in order. I believe this is a great day for motor sports in Russia and all the fans are in for a fiery show,” Alyoshin said.
AT&T Williams was represented by Nico Rosberg, the son of the Finnish 1982 Formula 1 champion Keke Rosberg. Nico started his F1 career in 2006 and has one podium finish to his name.
Another highlight of the day was a drift show, where drivers use their brakes to make the car slide sideways. Drivers from France, the Netherlands and Russia got a chance to do something in front of the Kremlin that most would get their licence taken away for.
