Maria Sharapova has confirmed she won't be fit in time to take part in the Beijing Olympics. A shoulder injury sustained at the Rogers Cup this week has forced her to withdraw from the Games.
The world number three and sport's highest paid female athlete suffered small tears in her right shoulder tendons following a tough three-set win over Marta Domachowska in Montreal on Wednesday.
Sharapova on Friday resigned herself to the fact that she won't be making her debut after all in the Chinese capital.
Another fear is that the 21 year old may be forced to pull out of the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open, which starts on August 25th.
