Zenit crash out of Russian cup

Zenit Satint Petersburg are out of the Russian Cup. Dick Advocaat’s men lost to the First Division side Sibir Novosibirsk, 1-0.

The first half didn’t see any goals, though the hosts, Sibir, had more opportunities.

After the break they continued to press and rode their luck, as Aleksey Medvedev fired home from close range, giving his side a path to the last 16.

Unlike the reigning Russian Champions, CSKA Moscow are safely through to the next stage.

Valery Gazzaev’s men didn’t have any problems, playing away in Vladimir against the second Division side Torpedo.

Spectators saw 5 goals in the game. Erkin opened the scoring for the Moscow side 43 minutes in. Then Yanchik doubled CSKA’s advantage.

Straight after the break Dmitry Vyazmikin pulled one goal back, exploiting Vasily Berezutsky’s schoolboy error right in front of the box and firing home.

But the Army men quickly restored their advantage two minutes later. And Alan Dzagoev put the score beyond any doubt with about 15 minutes to go.

Final score 4-1, and CSKA are through to the last 16. There were also some clashes between the Moscow side's fans and local police.

Meanwhile, Spartak Moscow booked their place in the next round of the competition as well, after defeating Dynamo Bryansk, who are currently at the bottom of the First Division.

The sides exchanged goals from the penalty spots all in the space of the first 15 minutes. Dzyuba and Kulumbekov are on the score board. Then Dzyuba added another goal 30 minutes into the game, to give the Muscovites a 2-1 victory.

And In Krasnodar, Dinamo Moscow defeated local first Division side Kuban by a single goal. Kirill Kombarov finished this wonderful combination with his blistering shot, finding the back of the net 55 minutes into the game.
