The fifth International Short and Animation Film Festival “Open Cinema” named the winning films on Saturday evening in St. Petersburg. However one of the categories could not find a winner.
77 films competed in four basic categories of the competition, but only three of them have been awarded with the “Main prize”, in the form of a hourglass with the inscription “Operate the time.”
Russian filmmaker Natalia Mirzoyan and her “Childhood Tree” came out the winner in the struggle for the prize in the “Animation” category. However, other nominated directors were also awarded with special diplomas for “The Most Ironic Film About Pregnancy,” “For Character’s Courage” and “The Most Shrill Image of the Universe’s Instability.”
“Tony Zoreil,” a French movie by Valentin Potier was named Best Fictional film.
The hourglass for the “Video-art” category was handed over to British director Marco Sanges for his “Circumstances.”
The fourth prize did not find a winner – the head of the jury, director Vitaly Mansky, decided that there was no worthy nominee in the “Nonfiction” program.
