Just Cavalli in Chechnya?

Italian fashion guru, Roberto Cavalli, is expected to visit the first fashion design studio in the Chechen capital, Grozny, set up by the former students of “the Patriarch of Russian fashion”, Vyacheslav Zaitsev.

Sisters Laura and Medni Arzhiev studied at Zaitsev’s school in Moscow and worked in the Russian capital before they decided to turn back to their roots and return to their native county.

The “Laura and Medni” studio in Grozny is likely to become the largest in the North Caucuses. One of the studio’s designers, Alikhan Mezhidov, told Ria Novosti collections will be created in accordance with Islamic traditions and ethnic mentality.

According to Mezhidov, the “Laura and Medni” fashion project has been approved by the Chechen President, Ramzan Kadyrov, who described it as “a big step forward in the development of high fashion industry in the Republic”.
