A festival of kindness and miracles has kicked off in the capital to spread a mood of love among Muscovites.
On Wednesday, Moscow marked “Random Acts of Kindness Day,” an international holiday when people are supposed to be kind to anyone without expecting any gratitude back.
As part of the event, a monument to this holiday – a large dandelion with human palms instead of florets – was unveiled in central Moscow on St. Andrew's bridge. According to legend, if you put your palm on one of the dandelion’s palms, your secret wish will come true.
Sculptor Grigory Pototsky says the flower has a very special meaning.
“The dandelion is a symbol of kindness. The wind will spread the seeds of the flower all over the world and kindness will grow – from Moscow, from Russia with love!”
A lot of people showed up on St. Andrew's bridge in the morning to party and boast their chic orange hats.
Elena and Andrey Vasilevsky were particularly excited about the event.
“Today we got married! We found out that this monument of kindness and wonder is opening in Moscow and we are so happy that it's happened on our wedding day!” Elena said.
The project was organized by a group of friends who wanted to brighten the winter days in Russia’s capital.
“We hope that lovers and friends will come here, make a wish and place a ribbon on the dandelion. And then their wish will come true,” project organizer Ekaterina Khachaturova told RT.
