Chris Hedges: 'Black Bloc' Could Kill OWS

Chris Hedges is on the show to talk about the challenges to civil disobedience in this country. From “black bloc” anarchists, which he calls the cancer of Occupy to the lawsuit he's filed against the Obama administration for signing the NDAA. Then, an active duty army officer has just submitted a classified report to members of Congress, saying that the Pentagon has been intentionally misleading them and the public about progress in Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis, who wrote the report, and Matthew Ho join the show to tell us more about it. Also, just days after a positive jobs report for the month of January, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke testified on Capitol Hill warning that the labor market is still a long way from normal. So, is there any light at the end of the tunnel? And then don’t miss our happy hour.

Can somebody give me one instance where the Ruling Class ever gave anything to the Lower Class without the threat of violence?

Just one?

Propaganda always lists the names of MLK, Gandi and South Africa, but nobody reads the historical content.

Demanding "Change" is far more complicated than we often admit.

There must be a "Good Cop" and "Bad Cop" routine and I view Chris Hedges as being a "Good Cop" and The Bloc as being the "Bad Cop". Each compliment the other.

When Martin Luther King was preaching peace, there were riots and violence happening all over the country.

Violence was used extensively throughout the course of the anti-apartheid struggle.

Gandhi famously called poverty “the worst form of violence".

Propagandhi

“In 1947, Gandhi said, “If we had the atom bomb, we would have used it against the British.””

http://www.gandhism.net/gandhi-propaganda.php

"More relevant are the facts of Indian history: non-violence worked only alongside widespread violence, including riots, across the subcontinent; and independence only came after mutinies within the Royal Indian Navy and the armed resistance of the Indian National Army (not to mention several world wars that overtaxed the British treasury and destroyed the fiscal basis for direct empire)."

"There were two main trends or tendency within the African-American Freedom Movement of the Sixties (and other Freedom Movements inspired by it).

One was the non-violent resistance exemplified by King and Rosa Parks.

The other was the militant, in-your-racist-face resistance of Robert Williams, Malcolm X and the Black Panthers (who, of course, originated in Oakland).

It's interesting but not surprising that the former gets all kinds of validation in the schools and holidays today while the other is scarcely mentioned or honored if at all.

I believe Malcolm said it straight-out in his visit to Selma speaking to the southern racists: "If you don't want to deal with King, you're going to have to deal with people like me."

And his words were already starting to be backed-up by urban rebellions."

"In any case, King and Malcolm, despite their different ideologies and approaches, appreciated the value of each other. They were like a "good-cop"/"bad-cop" routine against the ruling elite, without which the achievements in the ways of Civil Rights during that era would not have come about."

Chris Hedges can rock as much as he wants))) But pittifuly he is just the part of this whole inept liberal media wich is totally out of the loop. The thing is they have always been highjacked by those in power because the cannot consistently articulate the points in wich to built the struggle with the 1 % to say. So Chris Hedges -- rock as you wish? no harm in rockin but no sense also anfortunatly.

Chris Hedges, while we are on the subject, is a great inspiration to the many young people who think they are smart enough to compete with him to become better muckrakers.  But not only this guy, Chris Hedges, who truly cares, BUT I AM also thinking about Christopher Hitchens.  Dead as a DOOR NAIL at age 62.  This is why I say that Alyona should do as much as she can while she still is able.  I have great respect for Chris Hedges, Christopher Hitchens, many people at the New Yorker, and Alyona, too. Not to mention, I also enjoy the Vogue Girls on the Alyona Show. Not too likely that we can watch what is being reported on RT, reported in the USA. But then, this is why, keep your eye on RT.  Also keep your eye on Al Jazeera. Because, now doubt, Christopher Hitchens will not roll over in his grave if you do.  But speaking of Chris Hedges, he did say that all of us should spend more time to read Chomsky.  And, Alyona, I hope you have been reading your Chomsky!

Calm yourself, 'CALM'. Next time you comment, best to keep everything in one paragraph. Otherwise, you will strain our eyes reading your comments. Please let us keep in mind "twelve points make up a pica. and six picas make an inch."  Probably, best, though, that everyone converts to the metric system. And please stop talking "Klicks".  I'd walk a klick for a Camel? But I would be interested in seeing just how small the great IT people can make the 'font size' before comments can not be read on even the most expensive computer CRT monitors.
