New York City will be soon be represented by two teams in the NBA as the New Jersey Nets have changed their registration under Russian owner, Mikhail Prokhorov.

From now on, the Nets will be based in Brooklyn where the construction of their new home ground – Barclays Center – is just about to be finished.

The New Jersey version of the team was officially done as the new logo of the Brooklyn Nets was unveiled.

The team’s colors will also change, turning from blue and white to black and white, which resembles the old system of indicators in the NYC subway.

The new uniform is to be officially presented in the autumn, before the start of the 2012/13 NBA season.

“I can assure you, we’re committed to making the Brooklyn Nets a winner,”
Irina Pavlova, Mikhail Prokhorov’s representative, is cited by ITAR-TASS news agency as saying.

Brooklyn has been without a professional team since 1957 when baseball side – the Dodgers – moved to Los Angeles.

The city authorities plan to stage an opening ceremony at the Barclays Center on September 28.

New York already has a team in the NBA, with the Knicks playing their home games at Madison Square Garden.
