WBA heavyweight champ Nikolay Valuev has lashed out at the Klitschko brothers, saying the Ukrainians won’t agree to face him in the ring because they avoid unjustified risks like all good businessmen do.
“I have a feeling that my bout with one of the Klitschko brothers will take place only if I lose one of my legs or something. In a word, during telephone conversations they are ready to fight, but it’s different in practice,” the 2.13-meter tall boxer said to Smena newspaper.
Valuev stressed that the decision not to face him belongs only to the Klitschkos and no one else.
“If my career to some extent depends on my promoters, Wilfried Sauerland and Don King, the Klitschkos have a thousand times repeated that they themselves are the masters of their fate. They own the K2 promotion company, which organizes all their fights. The brothers are good businessmen; they carefully plan their each and every move, and they don’t want to take unjustified risks,” Valuev explained.
The Russian boxer was in talks to stage a fight with Vitaly Klitschko this Autumn, but now it seems the bout will not take place.
Valuev’s next opponent will be David Haye, whom he faces on November 7. The British boxer was to take on both Wladimir and Vitaly during the year, but pulled out of both matches.
“It is clear that commercial interests prevail when the Klitschkos choose their opponents,” he underlined.
Talking about the brothers’ skills, the Russian giant said that the IBF and WBO champion Wladimir and WBC belt holder Vitaly, are boxers of the same level.
“Who between them is stronger? Each has his pluses and minuses, so both boxers Wladimir and Vitaly are approximately equal,” he said.
In conclusion of the interview Valuev stressed that he has no hard feeling for the Klitschkos.
“Don’t get me wrong. I have a normal attitude towards Vitaly and Wladimir, furthermore – in all their previous fights I wanted victory for the Brothers and not for their competitors,” he said.
