Heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitshcko, who defended his IBF and WBO titles against Ruslan Chagaev, says the June 20 bout was “a bit boring”, Segodnya.ua reports.
The Ukrainian boxer believes there were no exiting or memorable moments during the fight, and he himself “showed nothing special” and acted monotonously.
He said he used mainly direct blows and simple series of punches, but it was enough to dominate, because Chagaev didn’t provide any serious resistance.
Klitschko also confessed he’s sorry that his opponent refused to continue after eight rounds, as a knock out in the end could’ve changed the audience’s impression of the fight.
Ruslan Chagaev came in as a replacement for British boxer David Haye, who pulled out of the June 20 bout due to injury.
Wladimir Klitshcko’s most likely future rivals are Russian Aleksandr Povetkin, who’ll challenge him for the IBF belt, and American Eddie Chambers, aiming to take a shot the WBO title.
