The clash between WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Aleksandr Povetkin of Russia and mandatory challenger Hasim Rahman has been cancelled after the US boxer suffered a hand injury.

The two fighters were scheduled to step into the ring in Hamburg in Germany on July 14.

“The Rahman bout is cancelled,”
Vladimir Kryunov, Povetkin’s manager, told R-Sport news agency. “Now we are looking into the situation and discussing the possible options to hold a fight against another boxer on July 14."

The WBA are expected to make a statement on the future of the Povetkin v. Rahman match, whether it’ll be moved to another date or put aside.

Povetkin is unbeaten in his 24 professional bouts, 16 of which ended in knockouts.

His might-have-been opponent Rahman has more experience as he collected 50 wins (41 KOs)  battles, seven defeats and two draws.
