Former undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has been invited as a special guest to the much-anticipated WBA title bout between Russian Nikolay Valuev and Uzbek Ruslan Chagaev.
The Iron Mike will arrive in Finnish capital Helsinki together with promoter Don King prior to the clash on May 30, Sportbox.ru reports.
The fight will see Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs) and Chagaev (25-0, 17 KOs) face off in the ring for the second time. They first fought on April 14, 2007, and the Uzbek boxer won on points to relieve the Russian of his WBA title. This was the only loss in the Russian Giant’s professional career.
The return match was cancelled because of Chagaev’s injury. The Uzbek fighter was named “champion in recess” and Valuev claimed the vacant belt after beating Sergey Liakhovich from Belarus. However, Chagaev has received the chance to fight the reigning champion after recovering, but he still claims that he is “the real champ.”
The final stage of Russian boxer’s preparations for the fight is taking part in Germany. He says training in his home city of Saint Petersburg would be impossible because his "phone would ring all the time.”
