Coach Dick Advocaat deflated the rumors that he wants Glasgow Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson to join Zenit Saint Petersburg this summer, the British Daily Record reports.
"I was asked if I would be interested in signing Barry if he is leaving Rangers in the summer. My answer was clear. If I did not have a player for that position, then Ferguson would have been one of my choices – but I don't need a player for that position,” Dick Advocaat said. ”So, in principle, I have no need for Barry."
Earlier, the Daily Mirror, claimed Zenit are considering buying Scottish defensive midfielder for £ 3 million.
According to the newspaper, The Rangers star is set to join the Russian side at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old was recently banned from playing for his country after an extended drinking session.
Dick Advocaat used to coach Rangers back in 1998 – 2002 and it was him, who put young Ferguson into the team’s starting line up.
